Amnesty-pushing politicians who insist that putting strong border security measures and interior enforcement before legalization for illegal aliens will anger Hispanic voters, were completely undermined by a new poll.
This poll shows that a majority of registered Hispanic voters believe any immigration legislation that becomes law should deal with border security and interior immigration law enforcement before legalization of America’s at least 11 million illegal aliens begins.
“Among all Hispanics, six in ten, 60%, support granting legal status to those already here only when the 90% goal is reached; 32% oppose,” GOP pollster John McLaughlin’s group said in a release. “Among Hispanic voters, 60% support, 34% oppose.”
The "90% goal" McLaughlin’s group is referencing is the target of ending 90 percent of current illegal immigration through border security and interior enforcement.
The McLaughlin poll also found that Hispanics oppose giving illegal aliens access to federal benefits, including Obamacare, “while they are going through the legalization process and before the 90% goal is reached” at a 56 to 40 percent margin. The registered Hispanic voters polled also considered “immigration reform” the lowest priority of four issues when asked whether immigration, the economy, education, or health care is most important to them.
The National Review’s Andrew Stiles noted too that the McLaughlin poll found, “Generally speaking, registered Hispanic voters were far more likely to support tougher security and enforcement measures than non-registered voters. For example, 64 percent of registered voters said they supported employment verification to determine if job applicants are lawful residents, compared with just 46 percent of non-registered voters.”
“Additionally, 55 percent of registered voters backed increased border-security measures (fencing, drones, police, etc.), compared with 45 percent of non-registered voters,” Stiles wrote.
The proposal offered in the poll is even more tough than the one put forward by Senator John Cornyn (R., Texas), who offered an amendment to the Gang of Eight immigration bill that would have required a 90 percent border-apprehension rate before illegal immigrants, having already been granted legal status under the legislation, could apply for citizenship.

The GOP establishment politicians are not bright enough to realize that they would garner more respect, and votes, from the majority of Hispanic voters if they would stand for something and insist on border security before legalization.
But, that would contrast with the narrative that “our immigration system is broken” and that the solution is a 2000 page bill which nobody will read. Plus, the liberal view is that the GOP is racist and xenophobic, so the GOP has to bend over backwards to prove they are not xenophobic, as if Hispanics only care about illegal immigration as a voting issue.
The people of Mexican heritage I know are most concerned with the lack of vetting and resulting ties to the cartels with many illegals. They fear the increasing violence and gang activities in their neighborhoods. A second concern is with jobs in a sinking job market as they will be adversely affected.
Then, SECURE THE DAMNED BORDER!!!!!!!!
oh i’d love to believe this poll. sample size of 800.. not terrible. +/- 5 points... little high. Then they break it down to ‘registered voters’ and ‘unregistered’ to get the 60%. They also didn’t give options such as.. which to you perfer? they just asked if it gets amnesty.. would you support this. if you look at the questions asked you can see they were evenly divided when asked about increasing border security. It’s not the 90% plan they were agreeing to, they were agreeing with every plan listed as long as it included the amnesty portion.
Why is that a shock. Hispanic “voters” are legal, stood in line, and earned their citizenship. Why would they want amnesty for the wetbacks who did none of the above?
Despite being appended and seemingly endorsed by Stand With Arizona organization and all, somehow the cynic in me just has trouble believing this McLaughlin Poll is trying to persuade anybody but conservatives who are opposed to the GOPe’s capitulation on everything conservative to stand with the Senate Immigration bill.
Subterfuge comes to mind. Just like those conservative sounding ads from Mark Zuckerberg’s Americans for Conservative Direction playing everywhere anybody but die-hard conservatives listen to or view.
I don’t care about what Hispanics think, truthfully. I care about sovereignty, enforcement of established law with respect to borders. I want all 11 million of the illegals rounded up and sent home. We don’t need uneducated takers here who are bleeding us dry.
But 90% of them are still pro-amnesty.
The last thing we need is more voters from this group.

It's not about race, but is about right and wrong. The only people I can see that might be for this is an American with a family in Mexico wanting to cut the red tape.
When I was growing up in America, you could feed your family with a carpenter's job, a roofer's job, a bricklayer's job, ect. Today they pay summer school wages for that because illegals do those jobs. To release 11 million more into the system will turn the USA into a 3rd world country. The middle class will collapse into poverty. That goes for whites, blacks and Hispanics. Any thinking Hispanic American should be able to see what's coming. This is why I can't believe American unions are for this. They think they will get more union members, but the illegals will just work for less and take their work. Huge mistake for unions to put up with this.
Here in Tucson, the folks here legally want the border secure and rules enforced. They still vote for Jabba the Grijalva though.
The only ones shocked are the Gang of Eight.........and they wouldn't know if the truth hit them on the back of the head........
Maybe I'm just dense but what in the world are "non-registered voters"? I thought that even "motor voters" were registered on election day, right at the polling place but they were still legally registered, yes?

I’m assuming that means citizens eligible to vote who have not registered.
