DALLAS (AP) — Making a rare return to the political arena, former President George W. Bush urged Congress on Wednesday to reach a "positive resolution" on immigration reform, an issue that eluded him during his presidency and now confronts fellow Republicans in the aftermath of a 2012 election drubbing.

In brief remarks at a naturalization ceremony at his presidential library in Dallas, Bush avoided wading into the merits of specific legislation pending in Congress, but said it was important for lawmakers to recognize the benefits of immigration to the nation's future. While he didn't directly endorse a Senate-approved plan his comments suggested the need for Republicans to deal with immigration reform in a broad way.

Making a rare return to the political arena, former President George W. Bush...

About the only issue that motivates W to get out and inject his opinions into the political process again. He and all the Bushes definitely seem obsessed with granting amnesty to illegal aliens and doing nothing to secure the border.

He had nothing to say about leaving Iraq, nothing to say about negotiating with the Taliban, but when it comes to amnesty for illegals...

Amnesty is a priority with liberals, including those with an "R" next to their name.

I’ve thought since late in his first term that the only reason W was ever remotely acceptable to conservatives was 9/11 and all the unity and patriotism that followed for a couple of years. 9/11 gave him cover to be the RINO that he is while much of the nation was most focused on the threat of terrorism.

Without 9/11, the mask would have fallen away much sooner and he might have lost to Kerry.

And I’ve said before and I’ll say again: I wonder if he was even pro-life, or if that was simply the position Rove told him to take as a bone to the pro-life voters in the party.

It’s Reagan’s fault. If there had been no VP GHWB, there could have been no POTUS GWB.

I agree with you. Why would GHWB and GWB be really pro-life when Prescott Bush and all their female family people are for abortion “rights”.

GHWB isn't pro-life, and neither is Barbara or Laura. W is about the only one I know of who said he was. Not sure about Jeb.

If Laura didn’t have illegals, she wouldn’t have been able to read so many romance novels. She might have had to push a broom, tend her girls, and even have to pick up Scotties poop with her own pooped scooper. Ew. RINO women dont make their own beds.
