AKRON, Colo. (CBS4) – There’s a growing effort to create a 51st state out of parts of northeast Colorado.

Ten counties, including Weld and Morgan, started talking about seceding last month. Now some people Lincoln and Cheyenne counties say they want to join a new state they’d call “North Colorado.”

Organizers of the secession effort say their interests are not being represented at the state Capitol. Representatives from the 10 counties held a meeting on Monday in the town of Akron in Weld County to begin mapping the boundaries for the new state they say will represent the interests of rural Colorado.

In NY you basically have half a dozen counties running the entire state.

But just south in PA you hasically have sixty-six counties subsidizing Philthadelhia.

Exactly. Look at the demographics.

60 percent of Obama’s margin of victory in the PV came from just two counties. Cook + LA county.

As for this, why not simply merge with Wyoming?

1. Can El Paso and Teller Counties come too?

2. How about we stay “Colorado” and rename Denver, Aspen Peublo, Boulder etc. “Calirado”? They could even use use Colofornia if they like.

#. Sheriff Terry Maketa for 1st Governor of the new state of Colorado!

“Running” and “Ruining” the state has the same meaning. Andrew; like father, like son. I live it every day.

The federal government would cease to exist? Sounds like a good plan to me.

With a Senate that big, nothing would get done and the federal government would cease to function.

I second that.

In Washington state there are 39 counties but just three counties control the rest of us.

Cease to function.

They would still take your money, but not do anything other than that to hurt you.

We need a mechanism for diluting the voting power of metropolitan population centers. Some kind of voter to area correlation on vote tallys.

How did West-By-God Virginia secede from Virginia?

Secession is one such mechanism. They can have their urban socialist utopia and we can have our compounds. They live by their rules, we live by ours.

Its the same here in Ohio. We have 88 counties - McCain carried 67 of them in 2008 - and the 3 biggies, along with a few scattered smaller ones gave us obama. Something needs to be done about the urban areas controlling every state. The electoral vote needs to be overhauled. Of course, the Dems would never go for that, but one can dream - right?

I doubt any area would be allowed to break away. It would be on then...

If the tea partiers are seen as terrorists, what do you think break away states would be seen as? I think you’re kidding yourself if you think this would be seen as some righteous effort.

Well you’re obviously trying to do something that will play in the MSM. Good luck with that.

I should research this thoroughly but IIRC creating...and admitting...a new state is a long, complicated process that requires both Congressional approval and the approval of a percentage of state legislatures as well.If I'm correct this isn't necessarily a done deal...even if the folks of “North Colorado” support it.

It's not quite that hard. The Colorado legislature has to approve the partition. And a majority vote in both houses of Congress is needed to approve partition and then to admit the state.

We've already accomplished that with only 100.
