Big Michelle meddling in school affairs...nothing new about the waste in school food programs...most children eat at home...Michelle and others are forcing this program on those who don't need or want it. Good eating habits or bad are formed at home...not during the day when students need the calories to study and stay awake.

wanna bet moochelle does not meddle in the school menu for Sidwell Friends?
wanna bet the Wgite House will never serve school lunch menu at a White House party?
wanna bet the obama tribe never ate canned green beans while jetting around the world on Air Force One?

Refuse to buy? I was under the impression that school meals were subsidized by you and I ...i.e. free to the students.

Carmel-Clay would be a very affluent area. Those kids would not be listening to Moochelle and her healthy crap meal agenda.
These are mostly wealthy kids and probably smarter than in most areas. LOL

Well, obviously Obama needs to issue an Executive Order requiring that these stubborn Hoosiers be required to purchase and eat the meals Michelle has deemed healthy.

Many schools are preventing the students from going home and bringing lunch bags.

School officials in Carmel Clay, Ind., said they lost $300,000 last school year because students are rejecting the healthy menu changes brought on by First Lady Michelle Obamas federal lunch regulations.... BTW Moochele is no lady.................
I just thought I'd mention that.

there could be a mandate to force feed the kids, perhaps,
kinda like Gitmo
but with healthy foods.... like cardboard waffles and canned green beans

I’ll skip the whole concept of subsidizied meals but my daughter’s school changed to ‘healthy’ lunches and most were dumped. Then to add insult to injury, the kids buy chips and candy after school at the Walgreens. In Illinois the food stamp card covers this.

Refuse to buy? I was under the impression that school meals were subsidized by you and I ...i.e. free to the students. Not for all students. When she doesn't bring her lunch, my daughter pays for hers.

We did a waste study on three different schools, and there was a huge amount of waste. That was just with produce, fruit or vegetables or milk.
A study? I could have told them that such menus would end up with a lot of waste. For $5.00.
Maybe, instead of wasting money on surveys, they apply some common sense.

Most of the school lunches are not prepared by the school cafeteria staff. Most lunches are prepared and delivered by caterers under crony-capital friend/relative type sole source contracts. They are delivered in hot tubs or trays that can be microwaved at the site. Generally, the cafeteria staff only microwaves and serves the crap. The best bet for all school systems would be to drop the Dept of Ag school lunch program completely. For a few cents more they could cut the paperwork, sole source contracts and headaches and provide decent lunches that are actually eaten. Many schools are finally realizing this. Additionally, subsidized or free lunches should mandate proof of need or else you pay or supply your own lunch.
