JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. Missouri schools will be encouraged to teach first-graders a gun safety course sponsored by the National Rifle Association as a result of legislation signed Friday by Gov. Jay Nixon.
The new law stops short of requiring schools to teach the Eddie Eagle Gunsafe Program. But by putting it in state law, Missouri is providing one of the stronger state-sanctioned endorsements of the NRA-sponsored firearms safety course, which the group says is taught to about 1 million children annually.
The legislation also requires school personnel to participate in an active shooter and intruder drill led by law enforcement officers.
This should make some educrats heads explode.
I had NRA hunter safety two years in a row for Gym class in high school. No big deal.
If I understand the OP correctly, this is excellent!
That is encouraging, but this goes beyond just allowing the school building to be used for the training, s I read it.
There is a NRA chapter here in CNY where the phone number for contacting the chapter is one of the local high school’s main office. I found that rather amusing.....
Excellent!
This is a different kind of article about the goings on in public schools.
It’s so unusual to get a positive one, that I thought I’d ping it out. Seeing is believing.
Additionally, anyone from MO would be interested.
Good! If they’re old enough to understand how homosexuals make babies this should be easy.
This is a new era of limp-wristed, obama-voting homos. I think it’s a very big deal.
How so, no big deal?
Do you live outside the United States?
THis is a good thing, and sorry to hijack the thread, but please pray for our town in Knox county MO. A 15 year old kid died on Tuesday, of accidental shooting, and he was friends with my son.
I had a feelin
:)
I don’t have a problem with that kind of “hijack”.
Prayers up.
How is your son?
He’s trying to deal. Went to the visitation today. Funeral is tomorrow. The baseball team this kid was on has their final home game tomorrow. They are going to play “one man down” and leave his position in centerfield open. It’s going to be hard on my boy as his birthday is tomorrow and my son is normally a chatterbox, he’s been really quiet, pretty down, but the whole town has been in shock, it’s just a bad time all around. The kid was pretty well liked by peers and adults, and he was accidentally shot by his best friend, it’s so messed up
All of the states outside of Illinois, the NE, and west coast should be doing this. If those other states pass such laws it will be Gun Safety Courses to be taught by Code Pink.
...he was accidentally shot by his best friend, its so messed up
Ouch! Every child should learn such basic skills as how to handle a firearm, how to cook basic meals, how to fish, how to clean a kitchen and bath room, how to change a tire, how to sew on a button and mend a tear, how to read a credit card statement, how to use fundamental household tools, et cetera.
None of it's difficult. Some of it can save lives.
Bunch of years ago, (maybe 10 or 20) a Philly tv station tried to make big fun of the Eddie Eagle program.
They brought 2 groups of about ten kids into a room. In the room was a gym bag with several non firing replicas inside.
Group A, had never had the Eddie Eagle program. Group B did.
Both groups were a mixed bunch of kids, about 30% black, 30% white and a few other tokens.
Kids in group A found the weapons and immediately started pointing them at each other and having imaginary “gun fights.”
Kids in group B also found the weapons, backed off and ran to find an adult. They never even touched the weapons.
The mother of a son in group A, black American, was simply floored. She almost cried because her boy was running around with the fake piece going “bang, bang” at other kids. She said on camera, “my son is GONNA get that training.”
The point of the thing was to PROVE that the NRA’s program was a joke and didn’t work.
To the credit of the tv station, they did air the piece several times and in a sheepish, off handed way, admitted that program obviously worked.
I still cannot find the clips, but I have spoken to numerous people who also remember it.
Funny how being taught respect for weapons works.
