Chicagoans react to Zimmerman not guilty verdict
thegrio.com ^ | July 14, 2013 | Renita D. Young

Posted on 07/13/2013 9:35:29 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

Venita, who didn’t want to give her last name because of her position at an area college said she felt an instant sense of shock and disbelief.“I think the verdict was unjust. I believe that the case law was not applied. Black letter law applies according to the situation, and the weight of the case was based on the fact that it was not a self-defense case.”

“In my opinion it was harassment, because the young man was not doing anything. He was being stalked and terrorized. [Zimmerman] has a history of violence, and I believe that because he was a young black man, that the system worked against him, and in favor of this white man. It’s just that simple. The laws have not changed. We are still ni**ers, we are still slaves in North America and nothing has changed,” Venita said.

“How can a boy attending his business, going to his home, running from a man who is pursuing him be guilty and the killer not be?” asked Chicago civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson in a live interview on NBC Chicago.

Jackson said, “I think it was always a stretch, having, this is not a jury of his peers: six women, not one black, not one man. It never was a jury of his peers. I’m really challenged, in some sense, thinking about this jury.”

“I think that’s some bullsh*t,” said 55-year-old Jimmy Byrd, a Chicago resident. “I don’t like it. I don’t think it was right. I just don’t understand the system.”

Marcelles Montgomery, 19, says Trayvon Martin could have easily been him. When he heard the news of Zimmerman’s not guilty verdict, he was outraged.

“In my opinion, he should have been charged for the very fact that he continued to follow Trayvon Martin, after he was told by police that he was not allowed to do so.” It never would have happened if he weren’t there.”

Montgomery is a youth minister on the South Side of Chicago. He said, “To me, it reveals today’s political system, so it does show us what we need to see: that we’re not as far advanced as we think we are.”

Shenika Jackson, 20, agrees with Montgomery, adding, “The jury should have been more sympathetic. If it was their child, how would they feel about it?”

Richard Price, 53, an administrator at a Chicago college said, “He created the situation and that didn’t have to happen that way.” In response to the jury’s verdict, Price said, “Sometimes people do things and they don’t really analyze what they’re doing.”

Continuing, Price said, “It could happen right in Chicago. It could be anywhere. And sometimes these things set precedents for what happens in the future.”

Tonya Brown, 48, strongly disagreed with the jury’s verdict. “It should have at least been manslaughter.” She added, “I hope that it will be retried. My justice system has disappointed me with this.”

Late Saturday evening, members of the Occupy Chicago movement tweeted that they were organizing a protest at Chicago’s downtown Daley Plaza. Jackson encouraged Chicago residents to stay nonviolent in their protest of Zimmerman’s verdict.

“I hope those who are in pain would not act in a way that would discredit the legacy of Trayvon Martin,” he said.

In Chicago three young Black men were shot to death between Friday evening and noon Saturday. And an innocent 8 year old Black girl was beaten to death, apparently by her own grandmother. No local outrage over these crimes, because the killers were Black. Talk about racism......

Just where in the he** are these people getting their information? Oh yeah - our beloved media. The sooner this arm of the government goes down, the happier I’ll be. That includes FOX news too - they are so left leaning that I don’t even watch them any more. They wanted to be liked and threw their hat in the liberal ring. They can all go under for all I care. They are responsible for the dumbing down of the electorate in this country.

These people are so stupid, we should just lie to them tomorrow and tell them that George was executed in the electric chair by the city of Australia overnight. They would just take three buses to get to the nearest supermarket and get free food off your dime and forget about it all.

How did his bag of Skittles get on the porch of the condo he was staying at and yet he couldn’t get away from G.Z. and ended up many yards away, back where he came from, pounding G.Z.’s head in?

Probably not. The legacy of Trayvon Martin? Dear Lord, these people are ignorant. I suspect he would be a number in state prison in another year or so anyway. That was his destination - unfortunately.

Those 25 boys who will be killed in Chicago this week will look like Jessie’s. Whitey is getting pretty tired of this crap.

Pray for America to Wake Up

They couldn’t find a single person who supported the verdict? Interesting, but typical of today’s press.

You Chicago Amish can go back to killing each other, now.

Sorry for the distraction.

I agree with all including your take on Fox News. What I have seen tonight is nothing more than sugar-coated pig feces. If the MSM manages to drive this country into chaos, as they so obviously are attempting to do, I will consider them primary targets.

Pat Caddell called it.

Emotional Pat Caddell on the MSM ignoring Benghazi: “These people have no honor!” Oct. 27, 2012 (video at link 4:06)

The MSM are enemies of the people!

“And an innocent 8 year old Black girl was beaten to death, apparently by her own grandmother.”

So sad. I read an article from Africa where the women rose up to stop the civil war in their country. They stopped it. I don’t have the same faith in the women of Chicago.

On a positive note, I just walked a 25-block round trip down in the heart of black Fort Lauderdale without incident. My girlfriend (who's black) and I briefly discussed whether it would be safe for me to walk from her apartment to McDonald's and back.

It just didn't "seem" like things were that tense this time. Yes, emotions ran high, but facts are stubborn things. I was a little anxious to see if there would be any kind of negative incidents at all.

There were few people "out and about", and those that were seemed rather quiet or subdued. A group of boisterous youths tooted their car horn at me along the side of the road about a half block from home during my return. Other than that, nothing.

So it seems that my faith in humanity has been restored two times tonight. By tomorrow morning, hopefully the good news on the national situation will restore that faith a third time.

You asks hat! You’re not “N***ers”.

You’re Americans and no man/woman should be deprived of anything, including their life but, for commiting an act of aggression against another.

You throw first, the consequences can be just as severe as what might have happened if Zimm didn’t have the means to defend himself.

You don’t care about the law or fairness.

It can’t be tried again.

They charged him with the highest crime possible under the law and he was acquitted.

If, he had been charged with 3rd degree manslaughter he would have been found guilty and I think we could have lived with that, grudgingly.

But, y’all got greedy and had him overcharged.
