Mr. President, Can We Please Move On?
Red State ^ | 7/15/2013 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 07/15/2013 4:15:57 AM PDT by IbJensen

I have said and will say again — the death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy. A jury of six in Florida has determined it was not criminal, but George Zimmerman will forever be the man who killed a 17 year old.

No one can be happy about what happened other than, for Zimmerman and his family, that a jury believed him.

Now the NAACP and others are calling for Attorney General Eric Holder to file charges against George Zimmerman. Never mind that federal investigators already decided there was no racial motivation. This is not double jeopardy. The state and federal governments remain separate entities with separate jurisdictions. A trial in one does not preclude another.

But in this case it should.

I understand why so many in the black community feel there was an injustice. The original injustice was that George Zimmerman was not arrested for the crime. He eventually was and a jury eventually found him not guilty of both murder and manslaughter. The State of Florida listened to the original outcry and responded with an arrest, investigation, and trial that rendered a verdict of not guilty from a jury of George Zimmerman’s peers.

Our system is not perfect, but it is preferable to rule by the mob. Juries are not perfect, but they are better than the court of public opinion. Many will feel justice was not served, but it was. Justice does not mean getting the outcome one side desires. Even so, those who are glad of the verdict should try to understand why so many feel so cold by what has happened and some see injustice.

I see too much politicization by too many people on more than one side. A boy is dead. A man’s life ruined. And too many are trying to capitalize on the politics of now.

As the President said yesterday, a jury has spoken. It is time to respect the verdict of that jury and move on. Trayvon Martin will never come back and George Zimmerman may be free, but it will be a long time, if ever, before his life returns to normal.

Our country still has much to learn about itself. Sadly, too many profit from us not learning and fanning the flames of hostility. Those who have legitimate grievance in the verdict — and they do exist beyond Trayvon Martin’s family — are drowned out by those whose only grievance is their inability to profit as much as they may from this tragedy.

We should all embrace the quiet dignity shown by Trayvon Martin’s parents these last few days and embrace the President’s words:

“We are a nation of laws and a jury has spoken. I now ask every American to respect the call for calm reflection from two parents who lost their young son.”

Mr. President, I hope your administration will make it clear that it is time to embrace the better angels of ourselves and move on from this tragedy. A federal trial does not do that and I am heartened by your words yesterday that you seem to recognize this.

I hear talk of a civil suit, Zimmerman vs. the state of Florida for malicious prosecution.

Mr. President, Can We Please Move On?

The incompetent foreign usurper in the white hut spends his time on local matters, which are none of his business (when he's not on the golf course or vacation or issuing imperial decrees), meanwhile Iran is very close to getting the bomb.

He has set race relations back at least 75 years.

> arrested for the crime? what crime?

The crime of not being beat down or killed by a black thug. Most thugs think they have the monopoly of being the hardest criminals on the planet and that they should always come out the victor when exchanging blows with whitey. They dont like it when they lose.

But made a lot of us take notice and appreciate the respectful, hardworking, Christian black people a whole lot more. I have some good Christian friends that just happen to be black and I enjoy talking with and hanging out in fellowship around the same dinner table after church. I have no problem at all having them as neighbors either.

"When this anti-American dam bursts, it is going to be ugly and bloody."

It will also be quite brief... almost all the guns, and all the best shots, are on our side of this conflict. Obama's drooling, crack-addled, handout-driven "Civilian Army" will be lucky if they're looking down the right hole when they push their triggers.

Eff 'em where they breathe. They're goners. LMAO!

Forward! Except for this ... let’s play the race card first.

“They grow up feral, uneducated, and with a tremendous hatred of white people. In ten years time, (thanks to the efforts of libs of all colors for the past fifty years) there will be a new group of uneducated, feral, violent, black teens who resist all attempts at civilization and lash out at anybody who “disrespects” them. Like Trayvon Martin the wannabe gangster.”......

Sounds more like a “sewer rat” to me. Hide in the daytime (mostly), roam the streets and alleys at night seeking to steal what ever they can grab. Just be glad sewer rats don’t carry guns or knives.

” the king of the race pimps.”

Yep... Someone once called him the ... “Long Legged Mack Daddy”

Urban Definition...

A pimp is someone smooth and charismatic and good with women and uses his powers to exploit weak women.

A mack is a pimp that is able to exploit both men and women.

A mack daddy is a mac that is able to exploit other macs

A long legged mack daddy is a king or chief or master mac daddy. Sort of like the godfather of all mac daddies.

There is far too much politicization, but lets not kid ourselves about it being on more than one side.

The left - the MSM, most of the political structure & government bureaucracy, civil rights industry - defines itself by politics. They politicize everything. If they stopped they 'd fade away.

Now that the full implementation of the Communist Manifesto is complete we are living under black communist rule and these unconstitutional “Civil Rights” kangaroo court laws will be used against us until the entire USA looks like Detroit.

Apologies to the handful of blacks on the right side of their bell curve but blacks in general have used up their White Guilt cards.

TM committed the first criminal act and HIS decision to start throwing punches and slamming GZs head into the ground is not a black/white/Hispanic/Amish thing but a criminal act by a thug who had already been in trouble with the law.

The trash was disposed of. The color of that trash is irrelevant.

“the death of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy”

The way Trayvon attacked GM with the intent to kill, leaves
me thinking that it’s probable that he may have done it
before and if he would have killed GM and ran away he may
have gotten away with it. This was no tragedy, this was a
public service.

Indirectly, he might save a lot of lives. If (big if) a number of violent, black youths remember what happened to Martin and think twice before they assault another "defenseless" victim. To be sure, it would be great if a number of the black youths engaging in "polar bear" hunts were gunned down. No question about it. I would bet every violent, black youth has been through many school grades where teachers talked about loving and respecting everybody and violence is terrible. All those years of having those wonderful, peaceful, humanity-loving lectures by well-meaning liberal teachers have done absolutely no good to those millions of black males who turned to violence anyway.

There is fairly large segment (approx. 1/5 to 1/4) of black males who grow up almost completely uneducated, feral, and violent with great hatred towards white people or anyone perceived as easy pickings. They are the most dangerous and worthless American citizens...(arguable since white liberals/leftists are almost as big a threat.) If word spread, as it would, that assaulting innocent people might lead to getting your head blown off, hopefully the black terror inflicted on innocent white AND!!! black people by feral, black youths will be halted or at least deterred.

Blacks are like any other people - you have bad actors and you have good ones. When you find good ones, it is great, but unfortunately the black culture promotes the opposite, so good ones are rare.

Iron Munro quoted: "... nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; ..."

This is exactly what I was going to post.

It's absolute nonsense to believe that our Founders would have expected Zimmerman to have to face a second trial because of his encounter with Martin.

If the federal government feels compelled to take action in such a case, it should be the obligation of the federal government to prosecute for all crimes claimed against the defendant. We know that the state would not be entitled to answer an acquittal for murder by then announcing a new trial for manslaughter. All lesser included offenses should be argued at one trial.

I would like to know what crime the federal government would be claiming was committed by Zimmerman if he had not fired the shot and what evidence they have of such a crime.
