'I was drunk when I met President Bush' TV anchor Laurie Dhue admits

For 15 years news anchor Laurie Dhue, one of the most recognizable faces on television, hid her alcoholism from friends, family and colleagues.

Despite the demands of her job, Dhue managed to hide her crippling addition and admitted that although she was always sober in front of the camera, she was drunk when she was invited to meet President Bush at a small reception.

The 44-year-old went on the Katie Couric Show today to discuss her addiction and to encourage others to get treatment.

Just subtract the little number from the big number and count up the number of times you subtracted before you can't do it any more. Round down. If you have to divide the big number, it's a trick.

A woman I knew often used an expression “sometimes the insides don’t match the outsides” and Laurie Dhue has to be the personification of that. She was so beautiful on the outside but obviously seriously troubled on the inside.

Hers was the first face I saw on TV in the new millennium, on MSNBC when it was still good. She was stationed at Times Square in NYC, and was just beaming and full of excitement.

Thank the Lord she’s gotten on a straight path.
