Are you stating that alcoholism is genetic?
There is a hereditary disposition towards it, but that doesn’t make it a certainty by any means. My father died an alcoholic, both my grandfathers were, and myself. But my children are not alcoholics. There is a predisposition, but it can be broken by good choices.
That makes two of us.
A good spanking is in order.
How could no one ping you to this ?
I went through too many increasingly horrible years where I needed to quit drinking. I hope you find a reason to want to before it's too late. At 11 years sober I can say without reservation that stopping drinking and staying stopped has been the best and most important decision and action of my life. Rather than a handicap or a limitation it is the source of the greatest freedom, peace and strength that I have ever known. There is help, but you have to ask for it, and accept it.
I’m not sure why there isn’t more of at least a subculture of people who don’t drink and promote that idea. I’m 36 and the Reagan-era “just say no” campaign worked on me. I’ve never drank a drop of alcohol and of course never tried any drugs, except for nitrous oxide to get my wisdom teeth out. I don’t have any desire to try this stuff and certainly don’t have a need to. The idea of dulling my intellectual capacity temporarily or permanently isn’t a selling point to me.
