Matthew Flugence admitted killing 6-year-old Ahlittia North sometime Saturday morning, according to authorities. Flugence, 20, was arrested Tuesday night in Westwego after a flood of callers reported spotting him walking in the area, Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said.
Flugence was arrested just hours after investigators identified him as the main suspect in the child'€™s murder. Westwego police helped deputies capture Flugence in the 800 block of Victory Drive in Westwego. He was carrying a knife he later admitted was the murder weapon, Normand said.
Authorities, relatives and friends spent three days searching for Ahlittia after she was reported missing from her apartment in the 2900 block of Destrehan Avenue in Harvey Saturday around 9 a.m. Early Tuesday morning, detectives found her slightly decomposed body wrapped in her brown and plaid comforter, stuffed inside a trash bin near the family'€™s apartment.
Ahlittia suffered four stab wounds and bruising all over her body. She had two stab wounds to her neck and two to her abdomen, Jefferson Parish coroner Gerry Cvitanovich has said. The two "€œaggressive" wounds to her neck -- likely the fatal injuries -- went through the cartilage in her spine to the bone.
There were no immediate signs of sexual abuse, according to the coroner. Normand would not answer any questions about whether the child had been sexually assaulted.
Matthew Flugence told detectives he spotted Ahlittia outside her apartment around sunrise on Saturday, according to Normand. The sheriff declined to comment on whether Flugence gave a motive for the killing.
Flugence's brother, Russell Flugence, 21, of Marrero, also has been arrested and booked with obstruction of justice. Normand said Flugence knew his brother was connected to Ahlittia's disappearance.

Perp had an outstanding arrest warrant on a charge of sexual battery of an 11-year-old Harvey girl.
(sigh) How unbelievably sad. I have four daughters and I just can’t imagine.
Now, this truly is a tragedy. Poor little girl. I hope he gets the death penalty - which means he gets to live another 25-30 years before the lethal injection.
I think once they have exhausted all their appeals, they should just go to the chamber and get it over with. Why drag this out and cost the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars?] I know this little girl is in the arms of Jesus. This breaks my heart.

They tend to work fast when it’s a high profile crime. It may not be national but around here it’s big. I like the Idea that where I live in La. we vote for our sheriff and Police Chief. That way if crime gets out of control we can vote them out.

Terrible tragedy. Do you think that MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry who said about the George Zimmerman Verdict: “I Live In A Country That Makes Me Wish My Sons Away” will now comment on this case? Do you think she’ll be concerned about her daughter? She does live in New Orleans after all.

I was just thinking how blacks should be more afraid of other blacks since most crimes against blacks are committed by other blacks. Isn’t it time people (including black people) should be angry about black on black crime?
There is not the outrage here that one would expect. Not only did this POS confess he told the cops- “ ...yeah, and I F’ed your mama too.” I can’t say I’m surprised. Crime is SO ‘normal’ in some families that they can say ‘ yeah, he did —— but he a good man’ in the same breath. This POS BABYSAT this little girl. She TRUSTED him. The mother brought a man into her child’s life who had a child molester/pedophile in his family. Too many children like this are doomed because of their criminal families.
I would hang him at the spot and let him ROT in the New Orleans sun until the maggots consumed him.
I’ve never heard of Melissa Harris-Perry but if she has been in NOLA in recent days she has to heard about this little girl. It’s a big deal here.
If the authorities were to drop this guy into the general population of a prison I wonder how long he would last.
