Gov. Terry Branstad is ordering transportation officials to cut the number of special license plates issued to government vehicles that exempt them from traffic cameras.
Branstad said Thursday it's unacceptable that 3,218 plates given to local, state and federal agencies have a designation that keeps them out of computerized databases. The designation is meant for those doing undercover work.
Cities with red light and speed cameras typically let those with the plates out of tickets that would cost ordinary drivers $75 to $200. Branstad also said the review should look at how many tickets the cameras have issued and how many other violations were captured but not pursued.

A project technically feasible in a few years might be a daylight-readable OLED license plate that would read anything you like - maybe one that changes every mile. Maybe one that copies them from other cars, using the same technology - maybe a car just like yours. Fun!
Funny, they should come to California to see how it’s really done. they don’t issue special plates, but any member of law enforcement, judges, prosecutors, politicians, etc. have their license plates removed for the state database used to issue red light tickets and tickets for driving on toll roads. Probably hundreds of thousands of cars in Cali and millions in ticket revenue.

To be clear, these exempt plates appear to be normal private plates. Many vehicles with plates marked OFFICIAL (thousands of city, state, university, and other vehicles) are also exempt from most traffic camera ticketing.
A very useful project would be a public database of each and every single traffic camera in the US, as reported and confirmed by citizens. Might come in handy someday.
VIP and donor plates. Does anyone really think that city council members, their families, legislators and their families, and agency or department heads along with their families, and judges wives or spawn are subject to the same rules as we, the people?
Solution: get rid of the cameras!!!
Seems like a huge security risk for undercover cops. I actually wrote out three ways to use this to sniff out undercovers (two didn’t require any hacking or direct access to the database), but redacted them.
I read a year ago that the percentage in California that were exempt was around 20%... I’ve been tempted to start a LLC and sell my cars to the LLC just to get a non-human name on the registration and bypass the system that way.
What about SAFETY?

Better yet, enforce all Laws equally. Some animals are NOT more equal than others.
That is not going to happen , I could throw out 95% of all laws passed in the last 100 years and there would still be so many that are impossible NOT to violate just by doing ordinary things that I would be jailed for the rest of my life within weeks.

I agree with you there. Our Laws should be easily read, referenced and understood.
In this instance though, I was arguing that the Laws are NOT evenly enforced. It is enough when I see the police abuse their own capabilities (lights/siren to get through a light, talking on a cell phone, speeding [no lights/siren]). Either Laws are for all, or they should be voided.
