Waving signs, carrying umbrellas to shield them from the sun and chanting for justice, hundreds of people filed into downtown Dallas on Saturday to protest the verdict in the Trayvon Martin case.
There were two separate rallies as part of a nationwide day of protest organized by black leaders like Al Sharpton. A large group gathered in the plaza in front of Dallas City Hall to hear speeches by local students, politicians and headliner Michael Eric Dyson, a Georgetown University professor and political commentator.
A few blocks away, another group met at the JFK Memorial, where they marched on the sidewalks to the Earle Cabell Federal Building and back. Some marchers at that rally chanted "No justice, no peace" while police officers blocked traffic to allow them to cross streets.
The events at City Hall seemed at different times like a political gathering, a pep rally for black families and a venue for residents vent frustration with what they perceived as a case where a black kid was killed with no consequences.
High school and college students called for young generations to lead change. Local religious leaders said that racial profiling happens in Dallas, too. And politicians called for attendees to register to vote.
"By standing his ground, George Zimmerman was able to get away with murdering a 17-year-old black man," said Chelsea Jones, one of the students who spoke. "I can only imagine what the black community can achieve by standing their ground."
The politicians at the event included U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins and Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins.
"What happened in Florida will never happen in Dallas County as long as I am DA," Watkins said.

LOL....
Don’t post ANY PICS of them blocking highways in Texas or disrupting city council meetings!!
A big no-no...
Hundreds. Massive.
Can we re-focus on the government corruption cases in the IRS, Benghazi, Fast and Furious, NSA and Obamacare now?
Or is there another squirrel set to run?
I have been at that very spot in the photo dozens of times.
That is about 150 people, no more.
If there was a photo of the “crowd” over at the JFK memorial they didn’t bother to put it in the article or I just missed it.
.
So are these protesters suggesting that if they heard the same evidence they would have convicted?
It’s one thing to feel sorry that he had to loose his life, but it’s quite another to protest the verdict...
Damn right it won't happen here Mr Watkins.
First of all you would have your butt in a sling if you tried to bypass the grand jury here and second a grand jury would have no billed that in a heartbeat. .
And at their rally they got, by their own admission, "several hundred?". (Which usually that means there were a few dozen.)
Sounds like a fizzle to me.
This Trayvon thing seems to be devolving into the same lame and incoherent mess as the “occupy” thing. And it will have the same effect - none.
When the MSM is trying to diminish the size of the crowd when really large, e.g. Conservative Marches, they take high up shots and also try to reduce the physical area in a crowd.
What the heck. If it is a real rally with a favorable crowd, the MSM aims a directional mic at the few protesters. JUST an FYI for a few who may not have viewed crowd control close up.
You beat me to the punch.
OWS fell flat on it’s face in Dallas...and eventually in all other cities.
golly..I just saw somewhere, that the organizers of this particular rally ere claiming 3500
Hey Joe... are houstonchronicle.com pics allowed?
Someone sent me a link of what was allowed here, but the entire thread disappeared when pics were posted from houstonchronicle.com ...
lol
Although I don’t live in Dallas (thank you Lord) that is where the news broadcasts in the evening come from.
I forced myself to watch all four broadcasts. No one mentioned 3500..not even the more liberal stations.
The organizers are full of hope and change...and b.s.
here it is....

3500 Attend Trayvon Martin Rally In Dallas
I would say this to these protestors:
You want justice? You want to ensure that this sort of thing does not happen again? Teach your children values. Stay married. Don’t have children out of wedlock. Love your children and teach them not to assault people. That is how you improve things. That is how you reduce the chances of your children becoming the subject of a coroner’s report. Be the parent you always wished you had.
This is excellent...pass it on..

Darn I missed it!
From my cursory browsing of the various news media nationwide, I would venture to guess that the total number of ‘protest’ participants would occupy maybe 2/3 of Cowboys Stadium. Maybe....

All NBC...contradictory.. all the time.
The pics I saw were NOT of 3500 people.
