Mood turns somber for Democrats in 2014 contest for Senate control
The Hill ^ | July 21, 2013

President Obama talked earlier this year of a Democratic takeover of the House, but instead his party is now in danger of losing the Senate. The latest blow to their hopes of keeping the upper chamber came from former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D),who opted out of a race to replace retiring Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.)

----

That party seems likely to lose seats in Montana, South Dakota and West Virginia, where it cannot find find strong candidates.

Wasn’t the GOP going to take the Senate in 2012?

Only the wishful thinkers on our side were saying that (including me). In contrast I think Nate Silver has said the Senate is looking pretty good for the pubbies in 2014.

Well said. Along the same lines, what’s the sense in republicans being in charge if they’re going to cave to the effects of brow-beating the press and round-the-clock protests will have on them?

Nope. There was zero chance in 2012 for Senate control. Anyone who thought so wasn’t paying attention.

“A sad day for the democrats is a good day for America.”

Not if the morons that replace them are liberal Republicans or Wack Job Big L Libertarians.

We need Dems to be replaced by balanced (Social/Fiscal/National Defense) conservative Republicans. It is getting downright impossible to find these.

If loosing a few seats turns them somber now, just imagine when the rule of Law is returned to the land and they get to line up in Court for their Treason and Theft trials.

I bet it well be a REAL Somber day then.

I don’t buy it, I have the sinking feeling that the GOP will do something to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

There are enough rinos in the Senate to prevent the good republicans from doing anything meaningful.

I have very low expectations these days...I'll settle for the Republicans preventing the Democrats from doing anything meaningful. I like the idea of a "do-nothing" Congress.

The dems can’t lose.

They’ve got the press, the IRS, the Justice Dept., DHS, and the NSA (along with google, facebook) on their side.

They will be able to drill into every challenger to a Democrat and get a full taxpayer-funded opposition research dossier on them.

There will be “dead drops” to the press at critical times, certainly the weekend before the election.

Even IF that fails they will get legions of illegal immigrants to the polls to vote

If they get caught, they’ll have a pardon waiting for them at the end of Obamas term.

No, they aren’t somber. I don’t believe it.

With the MSM heralded “Obama recovery” and the huge success of Obamacare, wouldn’t any Dem be pretty much a slam dunk in 014?

Yep. And make no mistake, they'll once again find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Draft Jindal to run. Not presidential material, but would make a fine substitute for the Landfill.

Just in time for the Republicans in the Senate to complexly acquiesce.

A) She will get her voters out - twice, in some cases. B) The GOP will nominate a rape/birth control expert.

We need to volunteer in the polls (I have for years) and make sure our candidates don't slip up even once. A "57 states" comment from a leftist is no big deal, but a " If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down" comment will be nationwide news forever. We need to remember that the media are shockingly biased and prepare for that - Republicans cannot go off message, ever. We also need to get active in our primaries so that instead of sending RINOs to DC we will actually send conservatives.

"President Obama talked earlier this year of a Democratic takeover of the House, but instead his party is now in danger of losing the Senate.."

I've always felt the former was just that: talk, and nothing more. The House never seemed that likely to be taken back by Pelosi and Co.

The Senate, though...I dunno. GOP gains are almost a certainty, but a majority still seems like the outside chance. I do hope for two things when it comes to the Senate: we get as many conservatives nominated as is possible; and that primary voters vet those candidates better than they did with Angle, Aikin, or Mourdock. We've seen some golden opportunities slip away in the Senate the past few years. I truly believe we don't have to settle for RINO's, but we can't continue to select people who self-destruct or just aren't up to snuff when it comes to winning an election in the first place.
