Boehner Says He Can't Take a Stand on the Issues Because It Makes His Job Harder

Asked repeatedly if he favors a pathway to citizenship for 11 million illegal aliens, Boehner told CBS's "Face the Nation" that his job is not to take a stand, but to let the House "work its will."

Not even close. He's the HOUSE speaker, not the GOP speaker. There's already a house majority leader who one would think would be the cheerleader for GOP in the house. There is ample precedence for the Speaker of the House representing himself as at the least near neutral and not even voting unless his vote is needed. The Speaker of the House's job is to be 3rd in line for the presidency and to keep legislation flowing in the house first, representing his party 2nd.

I'm not sure the headline writer got what Boehner said quite right. The Speaker has to get a sense of where the party is and where the House is before taking action.

The Speaker can lead his party if the party is united. Gingrich did. Pelosi did. I guess Tip O'Neill and Sam Rayburn did in their own way.

It's hard for the Speaker to dictate to the party if the party's elected Representatives are divided or uncertain, though.

Funny how the only people who understand that America is finished with this amnesty, are those who live in the west, and southwest. The rest of the country is against amnesty, but mostly on principle, not experience. This is the only reason the American people are not a lynch mob right now.

In the Reagan years, even Dems seemed to be a little more receptive to "good wholesome policy." Can't compare Reagan to Boehner, McCain, Romney, GWB....

Massive immigration has changed the demographics, the GOP is scared, and the Rove machine does not want conservative leaders.

I don't mind beating this dead horse over and over, but I'm sure others get tired of it. When you have a guy like McCain on your side, it makes you wonder how bad a guy would have to be, to feel comfortable in the Democrat party.

McCain feels right at home. The rest of the party seems to like him right back.

No, you can't compare Reagan to these guys. I believe Reagan would take one look at what they failed to enforce regarding his last bill, and would tell these jackasses no way would he back more legislation.

He would demand they enforce what they already have.

Anyone reading this and thinking I was getting a bit snippy, should realize I was taking myself to task for always dumping on John McCain.  I recognize that about myself, but I really really really don't think that man should be in Washington, D. C. any longer.  I make that known as often as I can.  I think it's reasonable for some folks to think that is tiresome, but the person I was responding to hadn't expressed that opinion, and this part of my post wasn't direct at him.  It was directed at myself.

We are very close to losing America, because of cowards like Boehner.

Given that the string of GOP nominees since Reagan has been George H.W. Bush, Dole, George W. Bush, McCain, and Romney, and given that we keep electing RINOs like Boehner to Congress, I'd say we were within a couple of elections of losing America.

There’s some truth in that, but I think the rest of the nation is getting up to speed on this real quick.

Illegal immigration is impacting the whole nation now. I have been amazed at some of the articles I’ve read about the Carolinas, Connecticut, northern mid-Western states..., you name it and just about everyone has had to deal with schools negatively impacted, local communities negatively impacted, health care facilities negatively impacted, elevated crime, job displacement...

This isn’t solely your grand-father’s South Western immigration problem any longer.

I was in Washington, D. C. in 2000, and a front page headline read, “Regional Hispanic Populace Expands by 300% in Last Decade.”

You just wait until they start counting those who want to get citizenship, or remain here and work.

10 million? I’m still predicting 20 to 35 million to start, 50 to 100 million chain immigrants on top of that, and 2 million legal entries each year over the next twenty years on top of all that.

His Pontius Pilate act notwithstanding, Boehner has already said he is for "immigration reform" and I think he really knows that he will have to bend over for Obama (citizenship for illegals) to get a bill passed. When he goes on stage with Cantor he lets Cantor take a position for him.
