Marco Rubio’s Iowa Slide
National Review Online ^ | July 23,2013 | Robert Costa

Posted on 07/23/2013 8:59:38 AM PDT by Hojczyk

Iowa’s talk-radio hosts have been particularly brutal. Steve Deace, an influential Christian conservative, has warned Rubio not to even show up, and has often taunted him during broadcasts. “Zip, zilch, nada — he’s got no support, he would be dead on arrival,” Deace tells me. “He may end up running for president, but he can’t win here.”

Rubio’s latest Iowa headache is Sam Clovis, a charismatic, suspenders-wearing Republican running for U.S. Senate. On the campaign trail, Clovis frequently uses Rubio as a target. Rather than hit President Obama, the usual rhetorical punching bag, he slams Rubio on immigration to score points with conservatives. He does the same on his website, where he “shames” Rubio in a video.

In an interview, Clovis explains his attacks. “What he did is not sitting well with most of us in flyover country,” he says. “He’s the face of this bill, so I bring him up when I talk about the rule of law, and how these Republicans in Washington want us to violate our principles.”

I can’t really say what motivates him. He talks like he wants amnesty out of compassion. Maybe so. Maybe he has an ulterior motive like you describe. The bottom line is he’s a shill for amnesty. Of all the things he could have done as a conservative, his overriding, #1 concern above all else was AMNESTY.

McCain won because the primary vote was too splintered. We need to unite behind the most Conservative candidate with a chance of winning to keep the RINO from slipping through to become the nominee. This is how they do it, not some vague “it’s the republicans fault”for running a lousy candidate. We are responsible, not them.

I may be dense, I may be stupid, but I have voted for my last Romney or McCain.

If the Republicans want my vote they better back a Conservative.

You are welcome. Keep backing losers like Romney and McCain and Dole, and see how far that gets you.

They should attack Rubio on Wind and Ethanol as well if that’s what it takes to get rid of Rubio in Iowa and other swing states. He’d rather spend 100 times the amount on illegals that goes to wind tax credits.

Steve King can vouch for Ted Cruz.
