The Neighborhood Zimmerman Watched
The National Review ^ | July 22, 2013 | Ian Tuttle

From the start the facts seemed to be of little importance to the prosecution of George Zimmerman, whether at the State’s table in Florida’s 18th Circuit Court or in the court of public opinion.

The forces lined up against Zimmerman worked diligently to bury the background to his confrontation with Travyon Martin in February of 2012 — namely, the rampant crime, frequently committed by black males, that had put his neighborhood on edge. As the “conversation” about the Zimmerman case and about race in America continues, these widely neglected facts should be exhumed.

George Zimmerman moved to the Retreat at Twin Lakes, in Sanford, Fla., in the summer of 2009. Two years into the Great Recession, the gated community of 260 townhomes was in the middle of a demographic transformation. The neighborhood was built to be a family-friendly option for first-time homeowners just a quick drive from downtown Orlando. The initial average price for a 1,400-square-foot townhouse was $250,000. By February of 2012 it had fallen below $100,000.

Large-scale foreclosures in the wake of the housing crash led investors to rent, rather than sell, the spaces, which brought a new, transient type of resident....

"George Zimmerman moved to the Retreat at Twin Lakes, in Sanford, Fla., in the summer of 2009."

"he called police about once every two months, amounting to 46 times between August 2004 and the time of the shooting...."

Why was Z calling the police between 2004 and 2009? A quantum time anomaly, perhaps? Or could it possibly just be poor editing? It's a tough call.

He called police 46 times and nobody got shot?
Maybe because 46 times nobody jumped on Zimmerman and pounded his head into the concrete.

He was calling because of all the thugs. He had to back up the time line and calendar to fit them all in.

This is a rather good article. The writer is an obvious intern - as proven by the relatively unbiased reporting, the occasional awkward phrase, and the last line “— Ian Tuttle is an editorial intern at National Review.”

It wasn’t the hoodie nor that he was a black teenager.

It was the townhouse that he was looking around at when Zimmerman saw him.

It was Frank Taffe’s townhouse which had been the target of a burglary 2 weeks earlier.

How did Martin know to case that particular place.

Had he been clued into it and dropped off there by the 3 goons from the 7 Eleven???

Tracey Martin knew that he was into this and so did blacks in the SPD who fed info to Tracey that looked bad for his son.

Thus the Skittles and Tea narrative to cover for what Martin was really up to that night — casing a joint for a hit.

(from the article) :" The forces lined up against Zimmerman worked diligently to bury the background to his confrontation with Travyon Martin
in February of 2012 — namely, the rampant crime, frequently committed by black males, that had put his neighborhood on edge.
As the “conversation” about the Zimmerman case and about race in America continues, these widely neglected facts should be exhumed. "

And yet there is another posting here that deserves consideration :.."Mark Levin weighed in tonight on a new HUD ‘fair housing’ neighborhood-mapping diversity program
that is supposed to help ‘integrate’ communities by giving people access to better communities
than the ones they currently live in.
It’s social engineering like we did with Fannie Mae and Fannie Mac in the recent past
…or as Levin called said, it’s communism and he likened it to ‘North Korea’.

There are some of us who believe in liberty and private property rights and the Constitution and some of us who don’t.
It’s not a question of ‘reaching out’, it’s not a question of bipartisanship.
They’re winning, we’re losing.
It’s a question of whether you want to live in a free nation. That’s the question.

And the Democrats are on the move and Republicans are on their back. "

So now the (p)resident wants us all to live in diversity integrated neighborhoods , even if he has to cram it down our throats ?

If so , be prepared for more Tray*(TradeMark)vs. George incidents !!

Why was Z calling the police between 2004 and 2009?

Potholes, trash, open garage doors, stray dogs, cars driving too fast, cars driving too slow, kids playing in the street, kids walking alone, etc., etc., etc.

The author introduces a very salient fact which places the entire Travon Martin mishap right at the feet of Obama.

That would be that the property values in the development were in free fall from the moment Obama was elected. If not for the falling home values, there would not have been undesirables and the crime they bring.

How does that explain the anomalous timeline?

And now he wants to "redistribute" that to every neighborhood in America.

That, and the fact that the regular NRO.com types were among the first of the commentators on "the Right" to throw George Zimmerman under the bus -- sans any regard for the facts -- when this incident first occurred.

I missed that. I read the facts of the case early on, expecting to find that GZ was a murderer and then seeing that the early media firestorm had the wrong narrative for the facts. Rather foolishly, I stopped reading about the case for a long time because I figured those who hadn’t read the details would eventually catch up with the facts and drop the silliness of prosecuting an obvious self-defense case. As a result, there’s a huge gap in my knowledge of the media coverage and commentary for this fiasco. I recognize that the far left is evil, but I frequently forget just how dishonest and corrupt they are.

Those are the calls Zimmerman made to emergency dispatchers in Seminole County only. Did he move to Seminole County around 2004? Did he call emergency dispatchers in his Virginia hometown prior to his relocation? Did he call emergency dispatchers in other Florida counties ... Lake, Orange, Brevard, etc.?

The condos went rental... to pay the taxes, since they couldn’t sell and take a loss.

Cervini shot and on ground at least 20 feet from shooter, some reports say 40 feet; I live in upstate New York and this encounter never made it to my local or national TV. ,,, yet.
Very bad police in the Town of Greece, body moved before it was even marked.
Very hard to get contemporaneous, or comprehensive, reports on this encounter.

There was also a large vacancy/unsold rate...about 40%.

I've always rented, and never “bought” any of the overpriced property.
The real estate bubble busted, as everyone watching knew it would.

It would be interesting to know if the complex and/or certain investor groups signed up with HUD, or if the get rich quick investors, who didn't know the area, were really that stupid.

As a property renter I think I am in a better position to judge landlords than most.
Do they do background and credit checks, or not?
Do they check renter history, or not?
Do they enforce community standards, or not?

Do they respect the lease, or do they ask for exceptional forbearance when it comes to normal repairs and routine maintenance?

If any portion of an apartment complex or condo unit goes Section 8, the slide to the bottom is fairly fast. The formerly nice, safe neighborhood is no longer safe.
Race is not the primary factor in the decline.
