Yet in recent months, an alignment on high-profile domestic issues not to mention an eye on their respective legacies has transformed Obama and McCain into Washingtons most unexpected odd couple. The Arizona senator is a regular visitor to the West Wing and in near-daily contact with senior White House officials.
McCain, in an Associated Press interview, said that he and Obama "trust each other."
For Obama, the senator has become a rare Republican backer of important elements on the presidents second term agenda, including immigration overhaul, stricter background checks for gun buyers, and perhaps a fall budget deal.
The first test of that strategy probably will be the White House-backed immigration overhaul. McCain helped write and shepherd the bill through the Senate last month.

"We will always have al Qaeda ... and each other."
I don’t see why they call it “bipartisan”... They’re both in the “Anti-American” party.
Why would anyone be surprised by this? McCain has been sending overt signals of his true nature for years.
Sickening though not surprising.
“Bipartisan” means some larger-than-usual deception is being carried out. - George Carlin
When were they rivals? McCain handed him the White House on a silver platter. McCain even thought that Palin would be the end of this campaign and never expected the overwhelming support that she generated. He wanted to lose in September.
You have to feel bad for Rimshot Joe Biden (Remember him?). Juan has come in and taken over the job as Barry’s goofy and obnoxious sidekick.
Hilarious.
One wonders if McCain ever met an anti american he didn’t like
Heated rivals, like the Harlem Globetrotters and Washington Generals.
Well, actually, it would have. McCain, like Romney, works hard on their liberal agendas and know how to get it passed. Had the House gone to Republicans in 2008, ObamaCare wouldn't even exist... Whereas McCain would have had McCC (McCainCare) fully implemented by now, along with working on his second round of amnesty bills...
McCain would have gotten us into WW III.
More bad news for America.
suppose the Republican close the gap in the Senate in 2014 and give us a 50-50 Senate again. or a 51-49 majority,
Any bets on how long it would take for Jumpin’ John to switch party?
I was thinking WWF, but your analogy is better.
Excellent.
AZ should recall him. It’s obvious he was brainwashed in the Hanoi Hilton. He’s as big of a threat to this country as obama. Man, why did I vote for this scum!
McCain, in my opinion, is one of the most detestable members of the GOP. The man is a Democrat at heart and a snake in his behavior.
