Our View: Enzi/Cheney race should give voters some clear choices
Laramie Boomerang ^ | July 28, 2013 | Editorial

U. S. Senator Mike Enzi has served Wyoming well. He is likable and effective in working with both Republicans and Democrats in our nation’s capital.

But competition in politics can often bring out the best in candidates. And that’s why we welcome the news that Liz Cheney will be challenging Enzi in Wyoming’s Republican Primary.

Quite simply, the political process works better when there is a competition between able people presenting forceful arguments. Voters deserve a real choice. We consider unopposed races to be detrimental to the entire process.

But it doesn’t because they’re both unfit for the senate. This is Wyoming, where the hell are all the real conservatives?

Anyone else see a problem here?

Liz would not have my vote. I do not like what she is doing nor what her beliefs are. She is a rino, plain and simple.

Enzi is a good conservative but not very aggressive. Why he would support the internet sales tax in a state without a lot of malls is beyond me.

She on the other hand supports so called gay marriage. For me that is a deal breaker.

She wouldn’t get my vote because of two things, the first being her support of gay marriage, and second, I don’t believe in carpetbagging. Somebody from Wyoming should represent Wyoming. But that is ultimately up to the people in Wyoming....God help them.

Enzi’s age is a negative.

That is true. He is the same age Ronald Regan was when he was sworn in for his first term. He is also a year younger than I am.

But then again he is no RR or Al Wilde.

Tie breaker for me in an election like this would be “out with the incumbent”. I am for term limits. Another tie breaker factor for me will be to oppose the GOPe/Carl Rove supported candidate wherever possible.

Mexifornia has had term limits for 20 years. Hows that working out?

Liz is a ‘gay marriage’ RINO. I have a feeling that ‘gay marriage’ is but the tip of a hidden iceberg with her. Anyone so touchy feely versus self evident truth premised HAS drunk the leftist koolaid and is at best morally devoid and at worst a spineless RINO.

Actually I meant term limits that work, not term limits that were a joke from the git-go, allowing politicians to alternate between the house and assembly indefinitely. If we are stupid enough to impose term limits that are not really term limits then of course they won't work.

Yes, it is absolutely imposable to be a moral person and at the same time approve of homosexual marriage. We know that Liz Cheny wants homosexual marriage, therefor we know she is immoral. So Enzi will win by default.

It is, indeed, odd that a "conservative" would champion such a cause.

Liz is pro gay marriage like her father because her sister is a lesbian with a lifelong partner. It’s a family thing.

Yeah, darn sure do. Personally, I’m fed up with Republicans who are effective in working with Democrats. I want Republicans who are effective in working for Republican objectives - and who are effective at beating the snot out of Democrats. Yes indeedie, that’s what I’m interested in. :)

Romney was Republican, so what?

I want conservatives NOT leftists whether they have an R or D designator by their name.

Supporting Homosexual 'Marriage' is supporting leftism.

Sooo, can you name a conservative with a “D designator by their name”? Just curious :)

Depending upon the issues I would say there are some.

JUST as there are RINOs. After McCain & Romney and with recent developments I am no longer loyal to the party. The GOP is leaving me behind as they head left to establish their form of plantation. I am conservative AND unless the GOP is conservative it can kiss my ass goodbye!

She also supports gays and gay marriage because of her sister. So does her father.
