Obama: Keystone XL Won't Create Jobs, Will Raise Gas Prices
breitbart ^ | july 28, 2013 | Ben Shapiro

In a New York Times interview published Saturday, President Obama came out foursquare against the Keystone XL pipeline, claiming that it would not create jobs. “Republicans have said that this would be a big jobs generator,” Obama said. “There is no evidence that that’s true.” He then blamed Canada for not “doing more” to prevent carbon emissions from oil sands. Obama continued, “I meant what I said; I'm going to evaluate this based on whether or not this is going to significantly contribute to carbon in our atmosphere. And there is no doubt that Canada at the source in those tar sands could potentially be doing more to mitigate carbon release.”

Obama also blasted reports that job creation would be significant: ““[M]y hope would be that any reporter who is looking at the facts would take the time to confirm that the most realistic estimates are this might create maybe 2,000 jobs during the construction of the pipeline – which might take a year or two – and then after that we’re talking about somewhere between 50 and 100 [chuckles] jobs in a economy of 150 million working people.” He stated that gas prices would go up in parts of the United States thanks to Keystone XL:

One of our jobless problems, oil companies are having a difficulties finding people who can work on the rigs. It takes people who are not afraid of hard, heavy, dirty work. It takes a lot of muscle to do some of the work around rigs, and a lot of our young people don’t have them.

It is not just rig workers, but all levels from the energy support service sector to engineers. Over the years we have lost a lot of our knowledge base and one of the primary reasons many are being enticed back out of retirement.

One of the alarming shortages is tanker drivers. The companies in Western Pa are offering high school graduates a high training wage with overtime. The only requirement is that they show up for work on time and are drug free. They are still looking for drivers because the applicants can't pass the urine tests when given the heads up, even in advance.

So, instead of using very expensive drillings in order to produce half a dozen 6 million barrels of oil per day, we should save at least half a dozen 6 million barrels of oil per day. Then, the oil market would be as it was 10 years ago when oil was far less expensive, even during the war in iraq.

Sounds like an obowelmovement speech. Do you really believe what you just wrote?

I have a buddy that is a rancher in ND and he tells me that the flood of new people into the area for the shale jobs is unbelievable. The problem is there is no housing to speak of and some have brought trailers to live in but do not think about the frozen winter landscape up there that is coming for them.

What?

The pipeline is going lay itself?

And all the extra crude is not going to result in more shifts at refineries?

And the extra refined product is not going to result in more ships in the Houston Ship Channel?

And more ships in the Channel is not going to result in more dock workers, tug operators, pilots, etc?

While I have my doubt about the higher numbers bandied about for building the pipeline, I suspect that there will be a few hundred part time jobs just doing vegetation management and fence upkeep.

While the pipeline to Port Arthur, TX is to put oil on ships, the destination is more likely to be NJ than anywhere in Europe. When the Keystone XL is completed would it be cheaper to ship oil by pipeline from Williston, ND to Port Arthur, TX then by ship to Quebec City QB than by train from Williston to Quebec?

And weld itself together too.

So he’s lecturing Canada now?

He thinks he is. "PM Harper, you have President Obama on line one". "Sorry, I'm giving the dog a bath, or washing my hair, or ...".

Have they tried recruiting military retirees or guys and guys serving their enlistment requirement time? They are pretty good. I’ve used quite a few, when we were in the wood business. They can squeeze a truck and trailer into an area with only a couple of inches on each side. I’d hire them in a heart beat.

Understood the G&G. Good point. I will bring it up with them. Good suggestion.

Between 1985 and 1990, Saudi Arabia increased oil production by 6 million bbl/d at a time when the world was using 60 million bbl/d.
The price of oil collapsed. Oil prices went from $60 a barrel to $20-$30 a barrel. (Today's Dollars).
Today, the West cannot add a production of 6 million barrel of cheap oil. Because the West is running out of oil that can be produced easily and cheaply.
But, the West, with India and China, can save at least 6 million barrel of oil.
In 2010, trucks used 13 million barrel of oil per day.
Industrial activities used 14 million barrel of oil per day.
Heat generation used 9 million barrel of oil per day.
Power plants used 5 million barrel of oil per day.
Ships used 4 million barrel of oil per day.

Using passives houses, using double stack freight trains, using biomass boilers, using ships fitted with sails, using trucks powered by gas,.. the world could save at least 6 million barrels a day without reducing car use.

Then, oil price should drop. The oil price collapse and the collapse of OPEC's earnings would be the reward.

Funny. You pulled that one all the way out to the elbow from the nether regions.

I was working in Saudi Arabia in 1985.

Their oil production was 10 million barrels a day, at that time. They were shutting down proposed projects in the empty quarter and were moth balling Kurais1-4, Abu Jifan, Mazalij, and Qirdi during pre-commissioning. The production in the new fields was underwhelming and thought not to be economical. They did not increase production by 6 million barrels between 1985 and 1990. Quite the opposite happened. They began reducing production.

During Gulf War 1, Saudi Arabia did quite extensive damage to their oil production capacity by over producing in the Ghawar oil field.

I know all about Saudi Arabia, however your response has nothing to do with anything, inclusive of reality or economics.

A couple observations about you now.

1. English is not your primary language.
2. You are very new here.
3. All of your posts (posting history) are anti-fracking.
4. Your arguments at best are irrational and politically based testimonials.
5. Prince Alwaleed bin Talal does not agree with your anti-fracking opinions.

Based on these observations I have a couple questions for you.

Do you worship the moon god or are you a liberal arts student? Neither of those questions are necessarily exclusive of the other.

I'm sorry but you are wrong

David Frum, former speech writer for George Bush : "In 1985, the Reagan administration persuaded Saudi Arabia to increase oil production. Between 1985 and 1986, Saudi Arabia increased oil production from two million barrels a day to five million barrels".

Precisely, David Frum is speaking about Saudi Arabia's crude oil exports. Because, in the 80s, Saudi Arabia consumed 1 million barrel per day.

No and neither are you sorry. You have not answered my questions. The only posts in your short history are anti-US oil production, with particular disdain for Fracking. How about coming clean a bit here? What are your real motivations for promoting your anti-fracking testimonials? You neither have a sense of economic fundamentals, nor that of oil production.

David Frum is your source. Are you sure you are on the correct website?
