Hey, N&V, here’s the real news flash. I was NOT on Pan Am flight 103, which blew up over Lockerbie in 1988.

I was planning a trip with a travel agent, but every time she got into the system to make my reservations, the system crashed. This happened repeatedly. So I threw up my hands and swore, and went somewhere else.

The worst part of the crash, besides all those formerly wonderful dead people, was the demise of Pan Am. In financial trouble (like the rest of the airlines at that time), Pan Am had made the very bad decision to sell it’s Asian routes and concentrate on Europe. After the crash, you couldn’t pay people to fly Pan Am. I actually did, come to think of it, a few months later, because PanAm was practically giving tickets away. But you had to get to the airport hours in advance to go thru PanAm security, because they checked everything thoroughly while the other airlines’ security lines were a breeze.

As for the politics of prisoner exchange, who would expect anything but corruption? I ask you?

I loved Pan Am! I got teary eyed seeing that blue circle that was going to take me home after flying in those Russian tin boxes.
