It bothers me as well, not because of any disrespect or insult to McCain, but because it makes it easy for people to dismiss our reservations about him by saying “He was responsible for the fire on the USS Forrestal”.

People hear someone say that, and discount every single thing, true or false because of the hyperbole in linking him to the Forrestal fire.

Same issue with Obama. There are plenty of things to rake him over the coals about, but if we allow ourselves to engage in exaggeration and hyperbole, it make is easy for his defenders to dismiss us.

I just think it self-defeating in the end to engage in that. I would rather excoriate him for the things he factually deserves, and there are plenty. But I fear that concern falls on deaf ears.
