Corker: Defunding Obamacare a ‘silly effort’
Washington Post ^ | 7-30-2013

Another Republican senator is weighing in against a plan hatched by GOP conservatives to tie a new budget deal to defunding the implementation of Obamacare.

“I think it’s a silly effort,” Bob Corker said on MSNBC. “What people are really saying who are behind that effort is we don’t have the courage to roll up our sleeves and deal with real deficit reduction and spending decisions. We want to take ourselves out of the debate and act like we’re being principled to the American people…”

(snip)

Other Republicans have offered similar remarks, with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), one of the Senate’s leading conservatives, saying it was the “dumbest idea” he had ever heard.

So its silly to be principled? Notice he said “act like he’s principled” which must have been what he was doing when he ran for election. These types need replaced. He is not in some blue state. He’s in a red state and its time to take out this kind of trash.

“I really, really liked him when he was first elected. Washington has changed him. He might as well be McCain now.”

Eventually they all fall to one or more of the temptations surrounding them. Was it sex, money, or power? Once they take a bite of the fruit, they are owned.

Vote against those Republicans IMO. This should be the reason for the rise of the conservative politicians.

The tough part is that most of the people running against the establishment turn into the worst of the establishment hacks once they’ve fooled us all. Does anyone remember how Lindsey Graham was the darling of the right? Hell, Marco Rubio ran specifically on promising exactly the opposite of everything he did once he came to office.

There are two issues in front of them right now, and if they fail then there is no purpose to a GOP.

Immigration and Obamacare.

Fail here and the party implodes. And it won’t matter because the republic implodes too.

Hey, Dorker ... defunding DeathCare IS how we deal with real deficit reduction and spending decisions.

we don’t have the courage to roll up our sleeves and deal with real deficit reduction and spending decisions.

My God, what a stunning example of prevarication!

Let the perfect be the enemy of the good says Corker. We have not dealt with "real deficit reduction" in decades and there is absolutely no chance that we will now." Real deficit reduction "is within reach by defunding Obamacare which presumes to control one out of every seven dollars which changes hands in the American economy.

The the idea that we cannot do anything about Obamacare because we cannot fix everything is the refuge of a scoundrel who knows that he can retreat into the thickets of a meaningless budget battle and avoid responsibility as he has done, no doubt, throughout his entire tenure in the Senate.

It is not just a question of money when one speaks of Obamacare, it is a question of retaining vital personal autonomy, autonomy over our very bodies.

Sen. Corker, it is called freedom.

People in TN probably still think Howard Baker was a conservative if they could remember him.

Strong concurring bump, and postmark as fundamental ground truth.

You've been paying attention. People will start calling you names like they do me -- like, "bitter old man". I got that one the other day. Someone called me that who heard me say something about Obarko and Slick's penchant for working for foreign intel agencies and governments.
