A federal judge has ruled that Nebraska cops must return over $1 million confiscated at a traffic stop from a woman who saved the money $1 at a time during her 15 year career as an exotic dancer.

The money belongs to Tara Mishra, 33, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., who began putting aside her earnings when she started dancing at age 18, according to an opinion U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon wrote last week. The money was meant to start her business and get out of the stripping business, the judge wrote.

State troopers confiscated the money in March 2012 when they pulled over Rajesh and Marina Dheri, of Montville, N.J., for speeding in Nebraska, according to court documents. The Dheris are friends of Mishra and had been given the cash so they could buy a nightclub in New Jersey. Mishra would own half of the business and the Dheris would own the other half...

This woman was quite fortunate that the armed robbers in Nebraska were not able to keep their ill-gotten gains.

Q: What's the difference between the government and the Mafia?

A: After you pay off the Mafia, they leave you alone. And they don't shoot your dog, your kids or your great-grandfather.

Her money was being held hostage since March of 2012.

Its never a good idea to have too much cash laying around - it could be stolen.

Especially by the Government.

The cops owe her INTEREST on that money during the time they held it.

They also should go to her house and family and APOLOGIZE.

I’m not saying the cops had a right to take the money, but I have trouble believing this money was saved up after 15 years.

You can bet that the next act will be when the IRS strips her of at least half of that cash. That’s why she kept it out of the bank all those years.

Or were they gifts of $1?

In any rate, I like Rush's idea the best, 'don't wish taxes on your neighbors, instead wish you had the same good deal'.

That’s about 335 bucks a day based on 200/yr and 15 yrs.
I’m pretty clueless on whether that is reasonable for the profession or not...

Actually, there are trace amounts of drugs on almost all cash. It's likely there are traces on the cash in your wallet, unless it is brand new and previously uncirculated.

Irrelevant. That's between her and the IRS. The money is hers.
