Wrinkle in Health Law Vexes Lawmakers’ Aides
New York Times ^ | July 30, 2013 | By ROBERT PEAR

...Under a wrinkle that dates back to enactment of the law, members of Congress and thousands of their aides are required to get their coverage through new state-based markets known as insurance exchanges.

But the law does not provide any obvious way for the federal government to continue paying its share of the premiums for the comprehensive coverage.

If the government cannot do so, it could mean an additional expense of $5,000 a year for individuals and $11,000 for families under some of the most popular plans.

Not surprisingly, that idea is unpopular on Capitol Hill.

“It’s a very serious concern,” said Representative Billy Long, a Missouri Republican who said staff members were “freaked out” at the prospect of paying the full cost of insurance out of their own pockets.

“They’re thinking about leaving government service,” said Mr. Long.

““They’re thinking about leaving government service,” said Mr. Long””

Oh! No! Choose not be a career government employee? That would be devastating!

Why would anyone worry about a little thing like this? All it takes is the swipe of a pen in the Oval office to wipe out all worries and concerns and like magic - the problem disappears. The taxpayer remains on the hook for the employees insurance premiums and they can remain on the government payroll forever and ever and ever!! Any other problems you’d like to see addressed? There’s nothing that can’t be solved by soaking the taxpayer. Well, as long as the taxpayers exist that is.

Good. I hope all these bastards who subjected the rest of us to Obamacare get to enjoy it as much as the rest of us. I have no doubt, though, that they will pass some sort of emergency legislation to exempt themselves at the last second so that they aren’t forced into the same system as the peons.

I think that all Congressmen, their staffers, and their families should be forced to get their healthcare only at the WORST-rated VA hospital. The quality of care at all VA hospitals would magically skyrocket overnight.

The sheep bought the “You have to pass the law before you can find out what’s in it” nonsense.

Screw them all.

Maybe all these put-upon employees should ask their bosses why they voted for this piece of crap without even reading it, much less understanding the consequences.

Well, isn’t this interesting. Out here in the “real world” $11000 a year would be a cost improvement for a lot of folks paying for family coverage.

““They’re thinking about leaving government service,” said Mr. Long.”

I seriously doubt it. In fact I will go out on a limb and say not one....NOT EVEN ONE will quit government service.

If they add up all the bennies, they’ll take the continued pampering of government service that includes things like “It might snow so take the day off”, and “We’ll pay for your subway fare”......

Naw. Even if they had to pay (which they won’t) they still have an easier time than anyone who actually produces out in the real world and is forced to support all of this.

************************************************************
I say that this “crappy” provision (Congresscritters and their federal employee staffs must get their insurance from the Obamacare exchanges) NEEDS TO STAY IN PLACE. Let’s NOT ALLOW it to be repealed without simultaneously repealing the whole of Obamacare. These Congress folks need to be in the tub, taking a crap bath, with the rest of us out in the real world.

They will of course try to sneak in a “correction” for themselves and their staffs and then, individually, say they didn’t know that the “correction” was in whatever bill it was snuck into.

Didn't the Liar-in-Chief wax eloquent about how Obamacare would drive down the cost of insurance, that if you liked your insurance you could keep it and you could keep your doctor. Maybe these bureaucrats and members of Congress should see the lies first hand.

They will find or manufacture a loophole.

Or they will agree to pretend that one exists.

When did congress or President Obama start being concerned about what is legal or constitutional?

They both just plow ahead and do what they want, wiping their feet on the constitution when they are done for the day.

Congratulations to Senator Grassley for putting this poison pill into the law. I think it is WONDERFUL. Let’s hope some good conservatives are keeping a watchful eye out to make sure no “correction” is allowed to be slipped into a continuing resolution or other bill.

You better believe the slimy scumbags are plotting a way to overcome this little nuisance. When they try it, they will be nailed. Thank God for the internet.

Hmmmm—I guess Congress and the pos on chief made sure they were not included in having to suffer under obamacare? I hope that fact hits home with the “little people” who staff their offices.
