Republicans have some fiscal opportunities and should seize them.
By Michael Tanner
After a summer of relative quiet on the fiscal front, Congress is approaching two deadlines that will be vital not just in terms of the U.S. economy, but for the future of the Republican party as well.
Sometime in late October, the federal government will once again reach its statutory debt limit, meaning that, without congressional action, the government will not be able to borrow any more money. That would require an immediate 25 percent cut in government spending the sequester on steroids.

I’m all about defunding 0bamacare - I just don’t think we can.
0bama will simply wait it out. He doesn’t care about the welfare of the USA hence he’s got the stronger position.
I can’t say what I wish would happen.
Well... we’re toast if we don’t!
Dear Lord, please share Your strength.

Mean while the joker is planning another vacation for him and family plus 70 secret service people plus other guest..
A trip costing tax payers 7.5 million dollar while most of us can’t afford to go more than 100 miles away from home..This crap has to stop..The fool just gave 500 million to the terrorist also..
I agree with the article - it’s worth a try!
And for all the Freepers here who are busy trashing some of the Senators and Reps who want to do this (such as Rubio) just because they don’t agree with them on some other issue (usually immigration)...hope you guys enjoy Obamacare! Hope you’re young and healthy...
Republican leaders don't mind Obamacare, so they are not going to shut the government down. They just want a few symbolic votes so they can claim to be against it. Meanwhile, they enable it.
Republicans who are generally conservative, but who have been in DC a while, may actually want to get rid of Obamacare. However, they know they don't have the gonads to withstand a media blitz during a shutdown, and that they will cave after a few days of sob stories, so they don't want to even get to that point. "Make it stop, make it stop". They are the whipped puppies caucus.
This is why the Republican party will die. It has no ability to translate conservative policies into action, and it does not appear that there is any way it ever will. I guarantee you that if Sarah Palin, or Ted Cruz, or Mike Lee, or Ronald Reagan, or I, were speaker of the house, Obamacare would be defunded. I would hold fast to the end of time before giving money to the end of American liberty.
“I agree with the article..”
We all need to help out the minority of brave Republicans, and call our House and Senate members, and tell them to DEFUND Obama”care.”
In fact, we can write a short letter to the editor, asking others to do the same!
BTTT!
Everybody here is saying it’s not worth a try, simply because we don’t have the perfect people in congress. I agree that most of them are awful, but instead of throwing up our hands and getting ready to sit down and trash these people before we drink our cup of hemlock, why don’t we write some emails and at least offer support for killing Obamacare?
Why are we all giving up and using this site to spread our hopelessness?
There is no try. Only do.
