Leonard Embody, a gun activist whose open carrying and self-representation in the past have produced legal responses as well as no small amount of criticism from some “pro-gun” advocates, was arrested yesterday in Nashville and charged with possession of a prohibited weapon, WKRN News 2 reported this morning.

The Form 3 paperwork for the silencer was in the sealed and locked rifle case. Tenn. law only requires the possessor "retain" the paperwork, not present it to the law enforcement officer upon demand. The NFA documents are federal tax forms.

He exercises his rights. I would not say that he taunts police. They could easily just allow him to go about his business. He is a known quantity.
They do not want to be bound by the law, so they arrest him.
He is trying to make our rights real rather than only words on paper.
If you look on the video, it is clear that the police officer is simply lying when he says that he is “terrified”.
I suspect that the courts will side with the police, but I also think that Leonard scrupulously documented everything so that the police had better play by the rules. If they “lose” the NFA paperwork, for example, they may regret it.
NOT arbitrarily stop and interrogate citizens because they are exercising their natural rights and not disturbing the peace in any way. From what I experienced, they did not care. Just stop you, License-Registration-Proof_of_Insurance -and they had a quick new ticket/citation to present at the end of shift and new fines flowing into the government coffers.
Which IS, after all, the real reason why they write them...
I side with the officers on this one. All else is BS and nobody is going to change my mind.
If he was walking downtown with a rifle slung over his shoulder and a bullet proof vest, I would hope a police officer would stop and at least question and investigate the individual. Had he cooperated, answered some simple questions and said he was exercising his rights. Then they should have let him on his way.
This was a stunt and he got exactly what he wanted. He wanted to put police in a bad situation.
Maybe it was wrapped in multiple layers of tinfoil, with plastic wraps. I did not see a picture of the case, which was said to be locked.
Good grief, read the damn story! Watch and listen to the video! He had nothing over his shoulder. The gun was in a case wrapped with tape. They could not see even a rifle! The paperwork for the suppressor was in the case with the gun.

You are a FReeper. I doubt you intentionally set out to make a scene that would arouse suspicion and worry. I know there are Jacka$$ cops out there looking to cause trouble, likely the same ones that stop blacks for driving in the wrong neighborhood.
You shouldn’t be harassed for driving around in biker gear even while open carrying. I live in a big city in the Midwest. I see bikers (and others) open carrying about once or twice a month. It’s not commonplace but it’s not unusual either. I haven’t seen anyone harassed even when cops are around.
All that said, this guy was wearing a bullet proof vest and carrying a rifle downtown. He was inviting a confrontation by police. I think police should be able to simply ask questions and get some reassuring answers so they can send him on his way. Had someone stopped any number of mass shooters on their way into a theater or college campus, they likely would have changed the outcome.
I am VERY pro 2A and do carry concealed daily. I don’t open carry but don’t disparage those that choose to. This is blatant to point out the conflict of having LEO in a “public protection” capacity at all. They can’t legally protect anything and must wait for a crime to be committed to do anything. This guy is pointing that out.
He doesn’t do anything positive for our cause of making guns in public more sociably acceptable. He makes us look like nuts. The lay person would assume there can’t be very many of us because they don’t see nuts like that every day.

I did watch the entire video. He had his wrist medically fused.
He taunted the police to confront him so he could refuse to answer questions.
He was walking down the sidewalk and was approached by the PD. He does not have to speak to them or answer any questions if he does not want to. But he did, he asserted his rights. Besides, they already know who the guy was. He had been handing out flyers.
He was not brandishing a firearm. He was not breaking any law. If he was please point out to me what law he was breaking and why they had the right to stop and detain him, much less arrest him.
NC is moving in the right direction with a law allowing hunters to use suppressors on guns.

No he was not. I mean really, you are not stupid. The guy was carrying a GUN CASE that was taped closed. It could have had bricks in it or a gun. What it should have had is a copy of the US Constitution.
Just because you would not do a particular thing that happens to be perfectly legal does not mean that you have the right to tell others they have to follow whatever notions you have. You simply do not have that right. Period. He is not you and he is not making "you" look "nuts" by the way. What is nuts is not seeing that he was within his right and the law and because of that he should not have been stopped and certainly not arrested. By the way, why would you give a damn what boneheaded libtards think? These "lay persons" have no right to dictate what rights any of us do or do not have under the United States Constitution no matter what they think or "assume".
