It was a violent and deadly week in a Northwest Indiana city; over the last 6 days, 5 people have been shot to death.
Among the victims, a young man on the job at a hot dog restaurant and a teenager sitting in the backseat of a car. The latest shooting happened just last night.
This is all going on in Gary, Indiana, where the murder rate is up over last year at this time.
The family and friends of Anthony Green, Jr. are relying on their faith to help them make sense of his death.
The 24-year old was murdered Thursday night around 6 p.m. outside the Gary, Indiana hot dog restaurant he managed for a relative. Witnesses say Green was sitting outside Chicago Style Polish talking with his two young nieces when an attacker shot him in the head. Green died at the scene.
Green's death comes less than 24 hours after another shooting claimed the life of 17-year old Joshua Passmore.
Authorities say the high school senior was shot Wednesday overnight just a few blocks from his home.
He was a back seat passenger in a friend's car who had stopped to get gas. The business had been the scene of at least two other prior homicides. Officials say robbery was not a motive in either crime.
The two shooting deaths push the number of homicides in the city to 27, ten more than last year at this time, causing some residents to be concerned than ever about the violence.

Gary’s decline was brought on by the growing overseas competitiveness in the steel industry, which had caused U.S. Steel to lay off many workers from the Gary area. As the city declined, crime increased.
Rapid racial change occurred in Gary during the late 20th century. These population changes resulted in political change which reflected the racial demographics of Gary. Gary had one of the nation’s first African-American mayors, Richard G. Hatcher, and hosted the ground-breaking 1972 National Black Political Convention.
In the 1960s through 1980s, surrounding suburban localities such as Merrillville and Crown Point experienced rapid growth including new homes and shopping districts. Due to white flight, economic distress, and skyrocketing crime, many middle-class and affluent residents moved to other cities in the metro area such as Chicago and surrounding areas in Lake and Porter counties in Indiana.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Gary had the highest percentage of African Americans of U.S. cities with a population of 100,000 or more, 84% (as of the 2000 U.S. census). This no longer applies to Gary since the population of the city has now fallen well below 100,000 residents.

The highest rate of crime is where the highest concentrations of blacks live... add their slow shift towards islam and what could go wrong? O’Reilly was right for once... blacks are the most violent group in America.

Yep, which is why the current focus is on the Stand Your Ground laws (specifically, the civil litigation barrier provisions). The “Civil Rights” BS is just a smokescreen - it’s really about money.

I am so acustomed to hearing about all the shootings, I have no interest in reading how one race is destroying itself. There must be a rap song out right now with a line in the script somewhere that says, “Just keep shootin boys, there’s more where they came from”.

The over achiever types in Gary, IN are trying to catch up and surpass Chicago, IL with the highest body count. Silly folks in Gary; you’re rank amateurs here and Chicagoans are professionals when it comes to murder and mayhem.
