Confession: You’re paying my phone bill.
In the past month, I have received three shiny new cell phones, courtesy of American taxpayers, that should never have fallen into my hands.
The Federal Communications Commission oversees the so-called Lifeline program, created in 1984 to make sure impoverished Americans had telephone service available to call their moms, bosses, and 911. In 2008, the FCC expanded the program to offer subsidized cell-phone service, and since then, the expenses of running the program have soared. In 2012, the program’s costs had risen to $2.189 billion, up from $822 million before wireless carriers were included. As of June, there were 13.8 million active Lifeline subscriptions.

Phones aren't free.
These phones are literally resold for $20 bucks a pop. The agents who sign people up for these phones make a handy commission. Not much different than when people use their food stamps to go shopping at the korean stores in ghetto malls because they will take food stamps for having your nails done, or buying phone accessories.
When I did receive my SafeLink phone a few days later, I started informing vendors that I did have one Lifeline phone. They assured me that the Lifeline program permitted me to have one phone from each participating wireless provider — which simply isn’t true.

The "employees" signing up probably do it on commission, so the goal is volume.
It's another freaking scandal, and our phone bill keeps growing to pay for the indolent.
Ever noticed who walks around constantly with a cell phone in their ear? At all hours of the day or night, during the week (24/7/365) when normal people are working?
Makes me wonder if the people bearing the burden really know --- or care.

Most people don't use OUIJA Boards to determine if any useful and interesting threads have appeared over the last 3-4 hours.
People with a life actually are grateful when really useful threads are reposted, since they can't be on line 24/7.
Once upon a time, when a reply was made, the original thread actually got bumped back to the top of the "Browse" list. That hasn't been true for a long time now.
Even the admins are clueless about the obvious.

Indeed! So another way of looking at it is that providing a link to an earlier thread provides those interested in the topic with an easy means to visit that thread for further information/discussion. I wouldn't necessarily consider that a bad thing or take it as 'complaining' (unless disparaging remarks are made at the same time).

Look, I’ve never been the thread police. But we also try not to waste Jim’s bandwidth as responsible posters. Using search is key to that. Yes, duplicate posts sometimes add to the discussion and this was a nice piece of work by the writer.

Another advantage of your link to the other thread is that the other thread isn’t excerpted like this one.
I’ll bet this is another one of those obamanation spread-the-poverty government programs where a multitude of “impoverished Americans” pay lifeline fees so other so-called “impoverished Americans” get free phone service.

if your kids qualify for free or reduced lunch (pretty much everyone these days) you can get high speed internet for $10 a month for up to 2 years....

The above paragraph is simply illogical.
Older articles that have gone off the first page are not lost forever. Anyone with the inclination can page back as far as they want. 24/7 is only necessary for those who, for some strange reason, need to catch every post the moment they become live.
And I’m sure for every thread there are people who will find it useful and interesting. According to your reasoning, we should be recycling all posts every 3-4 hours. That makes as much sense as having today’s paper print yesterday’s or even older news for those who missed it the first time.
And ouija boards, really?
Civility is always commendable, but going along with some real idiotic statements is a bit too far.
