Nation can’t move on and forget Martin tragedy (2 minutes of hate for George)
The Panama City News Herald ^ | August 2, 2013 | Steve Hough

Posted on 08/01/2013 5:42:40 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Connie Schultz’s July 20 column, “Feeling conspicuously white after the Zimmerman verdict,” put words to exactly how I have been feeling since the verdict was rendered in the trial of George Zimmerman — conspicuously white.

While I do not have a problem with the “Stand Your Ground” law in theory, consistency in its application appears to be difficult. I do not believe it is racially biased in and of itself, but where racial bias exists it could have a corrupting influence.

If memory serves, I believe Mr. Zimmerman was originally released without charges by the Sanford Police Department based on the provisions of “Stand Your Ground.” State politicians, as well as myself, immediately defended the law and concluded it was not relevant to this case. I still believe that is correct. I believe the Sanford police were simply incompetent, at best, or racially biased, at worst.

The court of public opinion has issued many verdicts but, in my opinion, by being distracted by all the frenzy we perhaps missed some valid points.

This case had everything to do with George Zimmerman following Trayvon Martin. Because Mr. Zimmerman bit off more than he could chew, he was “forced” to shoot Trayvon. The case became political only after the Sanford police dropped the ball. Perhaps, a charge of second-degree murder was over the top, but he should have been arrested much sooner, at least on a lesser charge.

Trayvon, just like you or I, had the right to walk to the store and back without being accosted. Any suspicions on Zimmerman’s part should have been resolved by the real police. I am no lawyer or legal expert, but Zimmerman was negligent. Whether or not that would sustain a charge of negligent homicide is beyond me, but the two seem to go together.

I stand by my original assessment: George Zimmerman was a wannabe cop, packing heat, who disregarded the police dispatcher’s instructions. He pursued Trayvon Martin, became involved in an avoidable altercation and shot him. Two guys with attitude may have collided that night, but only one set the course.

Additionally, we no longer assassinate the character of rape victims, but I think they did a pretty good job on Trayvon. Tattoos. Racist gang-banger. Gold teeth. Pothead. Etc. Because everyone has debated the technical legalities of the trial and agreed that it was a tragedy for all concerned, let’s not overlook the root causes, the mistakes made and those responsible.

Had Trayvon been approached by a police officer, his attitude would have been dampened by the fact that the police were acting within their proper role. He still may have been upset, but his reaction would have no doubt been different.

If the Sanford police had given full weight to Zimmerman’s actions and conducted an actual investigation, the governor would not have become involved. The louder voices of men like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would never have been heard. The special prosecutor would not have been under pressure to overreach on the charges eventually filed. George Zimmerman would likely have been convicted, and the entire country would not be in an uproar.

As it turned out, the entire country is in an uproar, and rightfully so. Because the justice system failed from the very beginning, George Zimmerman escapes having to take any responsibility. My hope is that we will not all just say, “What a tragedy for all concerned. Let’s move on,” and forget it. If we do that, the divisions that exist, and the hard feelings, will continue to simmer below the surface.

I predict the president will soon announce that, under the circumstances, the federal investigation did not collect enough evidence to warrant (prove beyond a reasonable doubt) a civil rights charge. I was stunned by the acquittal of George Zimmerman, so the president may shock me as well. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. But if the Department of Justice does not pursue charges against George Zimmerman, the lasting tragedy will be people like Connie and I will remain conspicuously white.

There are so many statements in this article that are factual incorrect I thought it was satire. This article and the attitude it portrays are what low information people use to argue the outcome of the trial was unjust. I have read the newspapers and online articles to develop a timeline of actions and with this knowledge I find it hard to believe someone can write an article so void of the facts

All blacks want any white person who resists any assault by a black punished by jail time, permanent loss of employment, expulsion from any school, church or social group plus fined to the full extent of any assets he may have or might have in the future. If the assaulting black dies as a result of any formally lawful resistance the white must be executed. This want is pretty typical historically as Medieval nobility and high clergy had similar rules. The only difference being the Medieval nobility and clergy were legitimate and socially recognized.

This guy’s a columnist? Every ‘fact’ he provides is the same tired leftwing BS talking points and his conclusions are nonsense.

Freepers need to set this ignoramus straight on the facts of the case However,I refrained from doing so because I didn’t want my facebook page publicized. Maybe its just better to ignore the article, and not give him hits. I just grit my teeth when I read such an ignorance of the facts of this case

OTOH, forced repatriation may one day become their lot (if they’re lucky). No one will take abuse forever. Our father’s or grandfather’s generations would already have raised-up with every weapon at their disposal. Or am I wrong?

So, the writer admits that if GZ had been a police officer TM wouldn't have attacked him. We're getting a little closer to acknowledging the facts.

What’s the point of a rebuttal when a person is basing their opinions on emotion rather than facts? This idiot will go any way the wind blows, because they care more about what others think of them than what is right and true.

Nation can’t move on and forget Martin tragedy

It's really hard to forget when race-baiters such as this author keep writing about it, but I'm doing my best.

Sorry, guy, it does not look like we're about to break into a race war. All of the people in my multiracial work place remain on friendly speaking terms with each other.

P.S. Mr. Hough, stop indulging in the white privilege guilt. That has got to be one of the most idiotic liberal pastimes I've ever seen. Feeling guilty about something over which you have no control? Isn't that rather pathological?

Can’t forget Martin?

Well, we still have Lewis. I loved those old movies. Particularly “At War With The Army.”

Jerry has drifted to the left as the years have gone by though.

Libs can't get off the "Zimmerman confronted Martin" theme. How do they know that? They don't. But it's the narrative they want to believe. Zimmerman had been doing that neighborhood patrol job for a number of years. (Although technically he was not doing it that night.) He had undoubtedly followed many other people. Obviously, none of his other surveillance jobs resulted in anything like what happened that night. Then why did that night turn out so different?

Maybe it's because all the other people Zimmerman tailed were not aware of being followed, or if aware, simply got out of the area without turning around and angrily confronting Zimmerman like it seems Martin did. The Martin defenders are simply incapable of assuming that Martin instigated the confrontation, exacerbated the situation, and caused his own demise. It must have been that racist, "white" Hispanic George Zimmerman who started the confrontation.

Nurse: "No, what blood type?"

Lewis, to newly-promoted fellow recruit: [wolf-whistle] Hey, it's the pretty officer.
Other recruit: That's PETTY officer!

Sounds like they agree that Saint Skittles had a right to give the creepy-#%% crackah an #%%-whooping, just like Rachel Jeantel said happened.

Any creepy-#%% crackah that doesn't let feral Trayvon's whoop his #%% is RACIST and should be executed.
