Kerry backpedals on controversial comment on Egypt

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry backed away Friday from his candid comments that seemed to signal American support for the Egyptian military coup and the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi.

The U.S. has tried hard not to appear as if it is taking sides in the crisis. But when Kerry said Thursday in Pakistan that the Egyptian military was “restoring democracy” in leading the July 3 coup, it left the impression that the U.S. backed the military action. Kerry moved quickly to defuse the flap, saying on Friday that all parties—the military as well as pro-Morsi demonstrators—needed to work toward a peaceful and “inclusive” political resolution of the crisis.

His backpedaling came after his comments were denounced by Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood, which insists that the democratically elected Morsi is the legitimate leader of Egypt. …

I’m sure he got his butt chewed for wandering off the reservation. I wonder if he will get a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in action?

Or a unicycle.

We need a photoshop of Kerry and Obama
both trying to ride the same unicycle.

“Forward! Back up! Forward! Go Back!

And it’s pretty hard when you only turn to the left.

Presidential candidate Kerry did that a lot. Backpedaling.

He would be saying one thing, then the campaign had to clarify what he meant, finally Kerry also did the backpedaling.

Senator Kerry, I am sure, does this constantly, just that the spotlight was not on him. Until this year.

This is an obama tactic and a rat tactic... say both things so that in the future... depending upon your needs... you will have proof that you come down firmly on either side of any issue. Perpetual innocence.

I prefer to say “back-paddle” — as in furiously paddling backward to avoid the rapids ahead. (Which seems an apt metaphor for Kerry, at almost any time.) Boats, canoes and paddles have been around since before recorded history, while bicycles have been around less than two centuries. It seems very likely that someone used the “back-paddle” metaphor long before anyone mentioned backpedaling. Plus, as you point out, you can’t peddle backwards on a bicycle. You can back-peddle a bicycle with coaster brakes — but, that only stops you.

All that doofus knows was learned on that Christmas Day in Cambodia.

In 1968. Nixon sent him there, even though Johnson was president.

Do Kerry get purple hearts for all these slings n' arrows of outrageous fortune?
