'Officer of the Year' caught on camera attacking 60-year-old man asking for help

An 'Officer of the Year' for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is now under investigation after security footage was released showing him attacking a 60-year-old man who was just reporting a burglary.

Last September, victim Brian Hudkins was in town for a business conference. He was staying at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis with one of his employees, Andrew Davis.

After dinner, the two went back to the hotel, but Davis was locked out of his room. He heard people behind the door and called Hudkins, believing it was a burglary. The two went downstairs to report the incident to hotel management and asked that they call the police.

Officer T. Michael Wilson responded to the call, and his exchange with the two men was recorded on hotel security camera footage obtained by WISH.

After only 16 seconds speaking to the two men, Officer Wilson tackled Mr Hudkins to the ground.

Wilson wrote in his report that Mr Hudkins was told to 'quiet' down and refused.

The officer said he 'attempted to push Mr Hudkins backwards and away from the situation' but the man 'forcibly' pushed backwards.

The surveillance footage shows quite a different story....

WISH showed the video to Police Chief Rick Hite, who said he had never seen the video before. The station later found out it was sent to the department five months ago......

Since the incident, Hudkins has filed a lawsuit asking for $700,000 in damages.

He says that he was forced to give a guilty plea the night he was arrested to get the charges off his record.

They also made him promise to stay away from the hotel and donate $500 to a police charity.

How true it is; never idolize any human institution no matter how noble its avowed purpose. Police need prayers too, that they would do the right thing not just legally but morally and ethically (in a word, being visibly reflective of God’s goodness within the scope of their assignments).

not only a take down in the store but a SECOND take down in the street WHILE handcuffed onto his face

Cope probably needed to establish that “he asked for it” and mark him up a bit

I would still like to know what exactly the man said to the cop, though...

(just out of curiosity)

According to the article the officer was called because they thought that their room was being burglarized.

They probably wanted the officer to come up and check it out, but he balked at that idea.

That’s probably when he said something like “you’re a police officer — why don’t you do your job???”

And that’s when he attacked him.

Is there a place on the internet that has a listing documenting all the police overreach occurring in this country?

Forcing people to donate to politically favored charities as a condition of a plea is very common these days.

Just did a search. This looks pretty good. . .

It is increasingly likely that you are correct.

I pray that more Freepers become aware of the problem before they and their families become victims.

May the Lord be merciful and protect the innocent from such tyranny.
