Five years later, an evolving Tea Party movement wades into the 2014 elections
Fox News ^ | August 04, 2013 | Associated Press

This wasn't the revolution the Tea Party had in mind.

Four years ago, the movement and its potent mix of anger and populism persuaded thousands of costumed and sign-waving conservatives to protest the ballooning deficit and President Obama's health care law. It swept a crop of no-compromise lawmakers into Congress and governor's offices and transformed political up-and-comers, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, into household names.

But as many Tea Party stars seek re-election next year and Rubio considers a 2016 presidential run, conservative activists are finding themselves at a crossroads. Many of their standard-bearers have embraced more moderate positions on bedrock issues such as immigration and health care, broadening their appeal in swing states but dampening grass-roots passion.

"They keep sticking their finger in the eyes of the guys who got them elected," said Ralph King, a co-founder of the Cleveland Tea Party Patriots. "A lot of people are feeling betrayed."

The Tea Party is a loosely knit web of activists, and some are hoping to rekindle the fire with 2014 primary challenges to wayward Republicans. But many more say they plan to sit out high-profile races in some important swing states next year, a move that GOP leaders fear could imperil the re-election prospects of former tea party luminaries, including the governors of Florida and Ohio.

Is there still a Tea Party movement??

There are many angry citizens but apparently only grumbling to ourselves.

Not much muscle as we had before, IMO

What a stupid analysis of the Tea Party. Who wrote this?

The fact is, a few Tea Party candidates have betrayed us. Rubio on immigration. Toomey on guns. Flake and Ayotte all over the board (don’t know how they got through).

However look at what is going on right now. Mike Lee’s charge to defund Obamacare. THAT is the Tea Party. It’s not ‘divided’ its just a case of Tea Party and not Tea Party. And now the leadership is in peril. McConnell is between a rock and a hard place, vote against it or own it. And we’re fielding great candidates this coming Mid-term like Greg Brannon in North Carolina and Sam Clovis in Iowa.

We’re sick of rats and RINOS. Time to take out the trash.

Obama’s IRS, FEC and other gov agencies shut down the tea party movement .

Obama ordered the IR$ and other gov agencies to rig the election for Obama and democrats in the Congress.

This is a coup.

We have to demand recall of this Obama and the rest of the communists/democrats who stole the election of 2012. Impeach this communist Kenyan Obama now

why aren’t the conservative media Rush, Levin, Savage , here,Palin, Hannity, Fox ,Coulter, drudge etc shouting this from the rooftops? :”

Obama ordered the IR$ and other gov agencies to rig the election for Obama and democrats in the Congress. Obama must be impeached.

This is a coup”.

DC is a very intoxicating place.
Will never happen but we’d be well served if our legislators were only allowed to meet in session 1 month each quarter and forced to return home the other 2.

We need to elect a bunch of introverts who hate meetings to go run things.

I disagree that people like the moderate positions that politicians take if they don’t balance budgets and secure borders.
Tea Party folks are slandered, but IMO in truth they represent the basic values of most Americans.

Balancing budgets.
Secure borders.
Reduce the size, scope and expense of government.
Get rid of bad regulations.
Give businesses a change to go.
Reduce taxes.
Have the government answering to the people, not the people answering to the government.

My jury will be out on the Tea Party Until I know where they stand on:
1] Ending the blood and treasure cost of wars and nation building
2] Bringing home exported jobs and factories
3] Get Federal Government out of education

When I think of the Tea Party, I see a mass of respectful, hard working Americans, some in period 18th century clothes, begging our leaders not to destroy their way of life. The lies, vitriol and hatred that’s directed at them only serves to demonstrate how malevolent and twisted the left really is.

I thing your #2 is currently killing the GOP.

We need to bring back American industry.

Make a go of our own industry. Stop importing trillions from China.

I’m series.

I know however I’m a very small minority. But growing.

We need to bring back American manufacturing.

The only thing that I can differ ;) with, that's its a small minority. It's large enough to elect Presidents! The GOP screws the middle class at its peril.

To tell the truth, it is this which makes me think the best idea for a go-forward America will be with a third party, and initially may lie with Sarah Palin.

The GOP is sold-out. Lock stock and barrel sold-out to China.

The Dems are waffling, and really nowhere. And I couldn’t support democrats even if the were to come out in support of American workers.

I really see a Tea Party saving America.

Maybe I’m just dreaming, but that’s the way I see it.

The GOP at this point is sold-out permanently, it appears.

Either the GOP gets itself out of Chinese manufacturing, or they’ll perish there.

"Either the GOP gets itself out of Chinese manufacturing, or they’ll perish there."

Given those options, the GOP will take the money. They'll just buy the Palin party. Where is the Ross Perot who heard the trade job sucking sound some 20 years ago?
