Maybe not... Glenn Beck interviewed the woman running against lindsey this morning and she was not bad but she was not up to the level that it will take to beat lightfoot... not yet. He asked her about her soul and she couldn't answer... he asked her what guiding principles governed her life (her words) and she quoted a part of the Declaration of Independence:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

She could not elaborate upon any of these things. She may end up being fantastic... but she was not on the ball and was not able to rise to the level that it will take to beat grahamnesty. She may be fine... just telling it like it is today. She was good on many of her answers but Beck asks everyone that question on their soul and she or someone near her didn't do the proper research... fag-boy graham will.

One commentator made the point that multiple opponents actually INCREASE our chance of beating Graham. In a two horse race....the incumbent has a lot going for him. With 4-5 in the race, it'll be much harder for Graham to get to 50%..then the strongest opponent emerges..the others get weeded out..and we have a much better chance of beating him in the run-off. I don't think that anyone who votes for one of Lindsay's opponents will turn around and vote for him in the run off. Cruz pretty much followed that path in Texas last year, and it turned out pretty well.

I saw Mace on with Cavuto a few days ago, and I think it's just a cased of nerves. It was a soft-ball interview, yet you could see that she was mentally trying to remember to stay on script..to introduce herself to the voters. I think she'll get a lot better in the next few weeks...if not, she weeds herself out. Remember, Haley was pretty stiff early on..and just look at her now.

I don't know that much about the candidates...but I wonder if Palin will make an endorsement.

Glenn Beck interviewed Nancy Mace this morning and she appeared as qualified as Carolyn Kennedy.

She appears to have no idea why she is running to attain one of the most powerful positions in the world. She had no answer to several questions and used talking points to fill space. She has no money, but hopes to win in a run-off - which will require even more money than a regular election. It was more than a disappointment.

Totally unprepared to be a sitting Senator. Maybe not even ready for a House seat.

Her accomplishments are writing a book that was ghost-written for her, getting into Citadel (a year late) by having a father who was a Commandant of the school, and.... that’s about it. Honestly.

I can only hope that Bright has something to offer.

This election won’t be some kind of cake walk.

South Carolina is FULL of people who would be fantastic. I hope they stand up. Quickly.

There was an article at the Huffington Post, which can’t be posted on Freerepublic but there were some juicy excerpts:

For a lawmaker who has long raised the ire of some rank-and-file conservatives with his deal-brokering and occasional breeches from Republican orthodoxy, there is a benefit to splitting the Tea Party vote into as many parts as possible.

But this line of reasoning has a potential flaw: South Carolina electoral law stipulates that a candidate must win at least 50 percent of the primary vote to avoid a runoff, and Graham’s chances of reaching that threshold could become even more difficult with additional names on the ballot.

And in a one-on-one runoff , all bets are off for Graham, who would likely have to fight tooth and nail for his political survival.

Former South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson — who runs a super PAC supporting the already well-funded incumbent — explained in stark terms the challenge ahead: “Fifty percent in a three- or four-person race is a hard number to get to. It just is. My expectation would be a runoff.”

“What leads to heartache in Republican primaries is small turnout, which makes it dicey,” he said.

To understand just how dicey things can get for Republicans branded with the “establishment” label these days, one need only look back to Ted Cruz’s once unlikely election to the Senate last year in Texas.

When incumbent Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson decided to retire rather than seek a fourth term, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst was pegged as the clear favorite to succeed her. And in the crowded primary in which six Republican candidates earned at least 1 percent of the vote, Dewhurst bested Cruz by a hefty 11-point margin (45 percent to 34 percent).

But in their runoff two months later, the Tea Party-backed Cruz easily defeated his opponent (57 percent to 43 percent) to win the nomination on the way to a general election victory in the deep-red state.

It’s a playbook that many hard-right South Carolina Republicans are increasingly confident can be replicated to unseat Graham.

“I think that Lindsey Graham is vulnerable,” said state Sen. Tom Davis, a top figure in the South Carolina GOP’s libertarian wing. “The energy in the Republican Party is moving in a direction opposite from where people like Lindsey and John McCain and some of the more establishment Republicans stand.”

Polling in the still-developing primary race has been scant, but a Winthrop survey showed that Graham’s approval rating among South Carolina Republicans had dipped from 71.6 percent in February to 57.5 percent in April.

You and I clearly came away with opposite impressions from listening to the same interview. I’ve donated to Nancy Mace’s campaign and I’ll likely donate to Lee Bright’s campaign. The more opposition to Little Lindsey, the better.

I’d suggest WE ALL WITHHOLD OUR ATTACKS ON ANYONE CHALLENGING GRAHAM—save our fire for him. A vote for ANY of his challengers is a vote against Graham. Why are we always tempted to form circular firing squads among the conservative candidates in a primary? It’s self-defeating.

Meanwhile, while Lee Bright is announcing his candidacy, Little Lindsey is in Egypt with McCain asking the Egyptian army to release Muslim Brotherhood prisoners. What a complete piece of excrement those two are.

Let’s defeat Lindsey Graham—focus all our fire on him.

Like I told upchuck, I’m following his lead and want to see all the candidates on the same stage and will make up my mind later who to vote for initially. Then it WILL BE anybody but Lindsey in the primary run-off.

Curious that Mace is getting slammed more than she is getting any kudos on the very few initial FR threads about her. So I donated to her campaign today as well.

I want a GOOD candidate. That’s what I want.

So far, in 2 separate interviews with softball questions, Mace is not.

Anyone has a problem with vetting candidates early in - get your head straight.

If this is your very first election then I can understand why you would jump on the first horse to go to gate. Otherwise, you should know better. :)

Mace will be whoever she is and do whatever she will... and we will all have to wait and see. She either has it or she will go away quickly. As far as her past is concerned... be very careful. Any negatives need to be verified and if they cannot be verified... lightfoot is likely the source. fagraham is notorious for sliming with untruths. Now if she is a slacker... it will come out and she should be shunned for a better candidate... and this new man running may be him.

Neither the Cavuto interview nor the Beck interview were professionally handled by the interviewers. Mace handled both poor interviews quite well. So, that's my take. But why dig at me? Maybe you are not Lindsey but you ARE doing the lifting for him.

Which are you from: the Upstate, the Midlands, or Low Country? Most folks here around here think I should support Lee Bright, since he and I are from the same Upstate county and I have known him. Maybe I shall when it comes time to vote.

One more Beck question for you: "How's YOUR soul?" (No response is ever satisfactory for Glenn.)

However, I have written nothing that is not common knowledge: Father was a Citadel Commandant, just 3 years at Citadel, ghost-written book.

If you have no interest in fact checking, but will blindly support the first unknown candidate while accusing me of spreading lies from unreliable sources, then I don’t believe you are genuinely curious in finding the best candidate.

I also want a GOOD candidate to defeat Graham. With his war-chest and extensive RINO support, any such successful defeat will almost certainly be done in a run-off election. And, realistically, it will take him having multiple opponents in the primary to force that run-off. That’s where the bloodied Lindsey Graham will be defeated.

My belief is that anyone who truly wants to see Graham kept below 50% in the primary will encourage ANYONE who takes votes from him. I’m saving my fire for Lindsey Graham. The candidate I like best so far, with the very limited information I have, is Lee Bright. But, after getting more information, if he ends up being the one I want to go head to head with Graham in a run-off I’ll will support him wholeheartedly. That support DOES NOT INCLUDE ATTACKING OTHERS CHALLENGING GRAHAM—they ALL will be contributing by draining votes from Graham in the primary. And I hope that all good, clear-thinking conservatives will see the wisdom of that approach.

Of course, there will be RINO trolls on these boards who will be expending their energy attacking and warring on one or more of Lindsey Graham’s primary opponents. That only serves Little Lindsey’s interests.

My great concern is a vote split and a Graham win in the primary.

McCain came out with 56 percent in his primary in AZ in 2010 with Sarah Palin’s help.

I don’t expect her help for Lindsey Graham or else I will change my tagline.

I am stunned at the sudden and blind attachment to a complete unknown who appears objectively unqualified to be a United States Senator. A Senator whom will be in office for 6 long years.

And running against a really nasty man who is going to go for the balls on anyone who tries to take his post.

My soul is fantastic, but utterly confused by the rush to champion a horse with no ribbons and bad confirmation who stutters at the gate.

You spit these phrases out like they are negatives. Do you see these as negatives? Why?

Her book, In the Company of Men: A Woman at The Citadel...the authors listed right here on the cover are Nancy Mace with Mary Jane Ross. So, you're saying Mary Jane Ross wrote the book without input from Nancy Mace? Or, just what are you meaning by "ghost-written book" and why does that matter?

I am pointing out that as a candidate, she rests her character and qualifications on events that were somewhat, or possibly less, than what she portrays them as.

I doubt that you prefer to not know about a candidates’ specific background?

Personally, if asked and paid to write a book, I would; though I would be bothered if I was unable to relay what happened in my life without a medium to nuance my words.

Notice that I used the words ‘probably’ and ‘hopefuly’...

Lee Bright is a constitutional conservative in the same mold as Rand Paul and Ted Cruz.

Rand has been endorsing people like him all over the country and he’ll probably get very involved in this race becase he seems to hate Lindsey and McCain. He’s been taking shots at them for years. And Cruz wil do what he’s been doing since he got in the senate which is to follow Rand’s lead on every issue.
