I don’t think their rule would pass muster. They might be able to regulate shooting, carrying weapons in common areas, but once a lease is signed, that domicile becomes personal property, a home. If I had an existing lease with them, I’d tell them to go f@ck themselves.

I would only say your last three words.

All it takes is adding this to the new lease agreement. As the apartments come up for renewal the tenant must sign the new lease or move out.

Further - this is a private owner of the property that is imposing this limit. Not the government. He adds it to the contract - what choice can a law abiding citizen have but what the property owner is demanding?

I don’t like it - but seems the property owner is within their rights.

Exactly. They have an existing contract that didn’t say you couldn’t keep guns, so if they try to come back and add new provisions, then they’re violating the contract. Course nothing says they can’t add new conditions when the lease expires and is renewed. Also, many apartments make you sign a 6-month or 12-month lease when you move in, then after that it converts to month-to-month status, which presumably means either party can terminate on a month’s notice for any reason. PLUS...even if he has a lease, it might say they can add conditions at any time. If he signed that lease, he’s an idiot, but he may have done.

I agree. The lease defines the contract between landlord and tenant. They can add new conditions to lease renewals, but not unilaterally change things during the lease.
