Family claims DeKalb County deputies used excessive force (Video)

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA)

A woman said her family got an aggressive wake up call from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.

The family told CBS Atlanta News they were startled at 1:30 a.m. when deputies beat on their front door.

Fearing for their safety, the family said they took their time to open the door. Once inside an officer used excessive force and aggressive language, according to one family member.

After the incident, the family posted the video on YouTube.

The sheriff’s department claims they received a copy from an anonymous sender Wednesday morning.

Both parties involved in the incident see the actions on video very differently.

Donovan Hall said he had no idea why police would be at their door, so they weren’t so quick to open it.

“They never once told me why they were here, what they wanted, or who they wanted,” said Hall’s mother Natania Griffin.

After more than 30 minutes and confirming with 911, the family opened the door and that was when mayhem appeared to ensue.

The sheriff’s department says the officer had a valid arrest warrant and they were at the right home.

They said despite the family’s claim, the video shows no excessive force, but admits two of the officers did use inappropriate language.

The arrest warrant was for Natania Griffin. She was arrested for not paying a civil fine.

She told CBS Atlanta that she had run-ins with police here in the past.

And don’t forget, the district is (literally) represented in the House by Hank Johnson of Guam tipping fame. Prior to Johnson, Cynthia McKinney.

This has to stop.

We will not last long as a society, with growing numbers of individuals who behave as if there is no law, AND law enforcement officers who abuse our laws, and use them, with their authority, as a license to bully and intimidate.

We truly, cannot afford to give up another millimeter on the Second Amendment.

Heavenly Father, please hear our prayers.

Every White in that town ought to get red tee shirts saying: Don’t Trust Blacks with Badges. Freedom of expression is protected by the Constitution and the publicity would shine the spotlight on these Democrat roaches.

And don’t forget ...

I wish I could forget, BUT 'ol Hank probably does accurately represent the attitudes and intelligence of the majority of the voters in DeKalb county. They resent whitey, have a bone deep sense of entitlement, have one of the highest crime rates in the state (Atlanta is higher) and think that 0bama is considerably more impressive than God.

Coming soon to a front door near you.

These days, it doesn’t rank as excessive force until the dogs are shot, the kids are held at gunpoint until turned over to CPS, granny is knocked out of her wheelchair, the house is sprayed with gun fire and at least 3 flash bombs have been lobbed through the broken windows, all the adults are shackled together and armoured vechicles have the neighbors in their crosshairs. Anything below that is normal police proceedure.

North end of the county is still pretty good. No way I would live south of, say, the Lakeside area.

“So these guys don’t even have the excuse of a drug raid, it’s a $1000 civil fine that gives them justification to mete out this crap at 1:30AM.”.

Simple explanation to why they were there at 1:30 AM. The dough-nut shops were all closed and things were too quiet that night. Makes sense to me. That County is “lost”.

I can assure you if that happened in my county, there would be a lot of job openings in our county sheriffs department. (I am “Chairman” of our County Board Personnel Committee)

They’re trying to carve out a City of Lakeside to distance themselves as much as they can from the county.

I know some of the people who are involved. I have my reservations about adding another layer of government, but given it’s really the only practical way to get some political distance from the county, and given how bad the county really is, I find it acceptable.

At least they didn’t shoot the dog barking in the house. That must be some sort of first.

If someone came to my door at any time, day or night, even without opening the door we’d be staring at each other. We have a lot of glass on the first floor and no curtains, blinds or anything. Don’t need it.

I have relatives who are currently leo’s and retired leo’s and have up until recently always given the benefit of the doubt to any situation like this to the police. However, more and more I am forced by events to re-evaluate this policy.

Eventually these and not all leo’s are like this, but what I call punks with a badge are going to push to hard and there is going to be push back just as hard. They are going to stomp on some vet with military experience or just the wrong citizen who won’t file another useless complaint resulting in a slap on the wrist for the officer or possible civil suit. The punks with a badge are going to show up for a late night raid and find themselves ambushed and cut to pieces. It’s coming because the good cops are not weeding out the punks on the force and the us vs. them attitude is worse than ever.

Now I know all leo’s repeat the mantra: I want to go home safely at the end of my shift to my wife and kids and I hope they do. What is the difference between me and them in this regard? Especially if I am in my home with my family? NONE.

No knock raids, kicking down doors in the middle of the night, the militarization of law enforcement which should have NEVER EVER been allowed is getting citizens killed, it’s just a matter of time before the citizens finally say enough and fight back and the result will be a blood bath for all.

Home to Emory University and Mercer..

And the revered fairways of East Lake too. Dekalb and Clayton are the proud home turf to the two worst LE in the metro area....by far. My boss, a former holder of high office in the Ga Libertarian party, helped an old high school classmate (Riverdale 85)build a lawsuit against dekalb co for violating her civil rights. One day...the thugs are gonna violate someone who will not seek rememdy through the court.
