PANJIN, China Its been 11 months, and Xu Min still rarely leaves the house.
He spends his days on the couch in front of a TV, trying to block out memories of his dead son. He blames fate for the car accident that killed the 23-year-old in September.
But for the loneliness that will haunt him and his wife the rest of their lives, Xu blames the Chinese government.
China told the couple that they could have only one child and threatened to take away everything if they didnt listen. They were good citizens, Xu said, so for 20 years, we put our whole future and hope into our son.
Now, the couple have no one to support them in old age. But even more crushing, said Xu, 53, they have nothing to live for.

Chinas one-child policy could potentially leave parents childless
This is the first thing I thought of after the traagic plane crash at the SF airport last month. I can’t imagine the pain the parens are experiencing — especially the parents of the young lady who was run over by the ambulance.
I hear that China is considering suspending its one child policy soon. Their population has stabilized.
BTW, China never enforced its one child policy equally. Farmers have always been able to raise more than one child.
I wonder if there is a significant component to the 6.1 to 5.0 drop in the “# children born per woman” of “unwanted” female babies.
Stabilized with 25 million more marriage-age men than women.
Indeed!
Stabilized with 25 million more marriage-age men than women.
Hey.we have a surplus of women who aren`t doing ANYTHING ..clean out Detroit and ship them to China
Stay tuned for EUTHANASIA. It’s coming!!!!!
China doesn’t want those trashy STD infected losers either!
Potentially? I DOES leave many parent childless when their only child dies.
It was one of the first things I noted when the plane crashed. Communism sees no value in an individual. Simply another person. To the communist mind, their death can be tragic but the complete picture is overlooked. The tragedy of a devastated family doesn’t exist.
Consider this, with only one child, there will be no uncles/aunts. Then there will be no cousins. There will be no family. Communism destroys families.
Unlikely. They make too much money in fines for non-compliance and charging people for second and third children, in a place where income and sales taxes are hard to collect for 95% of the population.
And it justifies the police state they need to control the population, while giving them a way to control them.
