U.S. Army veteran Jared Goering was kicked off the North Wildwood boardwalk Thursday night because he had his service dog by his side.

A North Wildwood police officer issued Jared and his wife a summons because of the dog. Goering said, “I expected to get more respect from him because of the jobs that we both have to do."

"He mockingly asked if all veterans get service dogs," said Jared’s wife, Sally Goering, “his dog is medically necessary and he is a service dog."

Jared and his wife Sally say the incident occurred on the 26th street North Wildwood boardwalk. The Goering family said, even after showing the officer the dog's service identification card, he still issued them a summons and kicked them off the boardwalk.

Goering served in the army from 1993-2012; in 2009 in Afghanistan, his vehicle was

The only way to get respect from assholes like this is to sue the city, people with no common sense shouldn’t be allowed to be police, the taxpayers in their jurisdiction have to pay for their stupidity.

Totally illegal. The veteran is protected under ADA. Also it is a crappy way to treat another human being, especially one who served his country.

I am not sure if he would file a civil complaint directly with DOJ under ADA or if VA has their own division handling ADA complaints. The service animal is 100% permitted to be in any public place.

Exactly. The ADA trumps any local or state law that would limit the movement of the man and his service dog.Don’t these idiot kops get any briefings on the law?

If this were a member of the Left, you’d have the DOJ, the FBI, the Civil Rights organizations, the...

On Monday morning there would be an army of advocates showing up at the police station, and this officer would be facing a civil rights trial.

Exactly. States can pass stricter standards than what is found in Federal ADA but they can not weaken it or nullify any of its provisions. Questions on service animals are a non starter since you can hardly draft stricter legislation regarding them.

Just for the fun of it I would love if someone went to Wildwood and documented all the ways Title II of the ADA was violated by that municipality.

An enterprising shyster could make a handsome sum for himself and the vet, without breaking much of a sweat.

This document outlines the laws enforced by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) that address police misconduct and explains how you can file a complaint with DOJ if you believe that your rights have been violated.

Ya know?? There is no punishment too great for the willful stupidity of some people. Shame on the officer. I hope he takes a long time dying.

Our family visits Wildwood annually. It is our experience that the police monitoring the Wildwood boardwalk (North Wildwood, Wildwood, Wildwood Crest) are very young and appear to be seasonal hires. The official [non]response from the police department is weak at best.
" North Wildwood officials say they reached out to the national non-profit organization, America's Vet Dogs, to learn and practice more methods when identifying legitimate service dog teams.

North Wildwood police also add that the internal affairs supervisor will continue to investigate the incident.
