To be an American and nothing else, based upon the circumstances of birth, you must be born in America, to an American Father and an American mother.

So much for that argument......

With Obama now there have been seven presidents with at least one foreign-born parent. It has been 76 years since the last: Herbert Hoover had a Canadian-born mother. Woodrow Wilson's mother was English. Chester Arthur and James Buchanan both had Irish fathers. Thomas Jefferson's mother was born in England, and Andrew Jackson's parents were both born in Ireland.

Interesting. Other than those who meet the exception to the eligibility requirement, were the foreign born parents American citizens when their future president was born?

Your parents can be born anywhere, as long as they are American citizens when you are born.

In other words, what is your inheritance; what can be passed along to you?

If your parents are Americans, they presumably then pass on what they have claim to, which would be their (American) citizenship at the time of your birth.
