Bright (officially) launches campaign for US Senate (SC)

State Sen. Lee Bright officially announced his candidacy for U.S. Senate during a teleconference Tuesday.

Bright has been vocal about considering a run against two-term incumbent Sen. Lindsey Graham for months.

“I have looked at the record of Sen. Graham, and I feel like it's time for a change,” Bright said.

During the conference, Bright touted his voting record during five years in the state senate — a voting history he stated has been commended by conservative leadership and organizations. As a U.S. senator, Bright said he would continue to campaign for an individual's rights to own firearms and an anti-abortion agenda. Bright said he would fight against high taxes and a powerful IRS.

“I think it's time South Carolinians have someone to represent South Carolina and the conservative values of the state,” Bright said.

Bright criticized Graham for his role in creating the immigration reform bill currently in Congress by saying it amounts to “amnesty” and would create a “permanent underclass.” He also said the incumbent was taking advice from Democrats on how to win Republican elections.

Bright also accused Graham of “community organizing for the Muslim Brotherhood,” during his recent trip to Egypt, instead of being at home working on the problems of his constituents.

I think all true conservatives should hold their fire and not attack or denigrate ANY challenger of Little Lindsey Graham. And they certainly shouldn’t be spreading FUD and misinformation on any of these challengers. Save your fire for Lindsey Graham, who lately is carrying the water for the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt along with his compadre Juan McCain.

So, he has supermodel Kim Alexis’ endorsement then?

I know nothing of the man. He was on Beck this morning and, unlike Mace, did a really good job.

2A note on candidate Bright:

State Sen. Lee Bright, R-Roebuck, has reintroduced a bill that would exempt firearms, ammunition and gun accessories made in South Carolina from federal regulation.

The Firearms Freedom Act was first passed in Montana, where it is tied up in litigation currently before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. It’s been passed in eight states and introduced in more than 20, including once by Bright during South Carolina’s 2011-2012 legislative session.

(The Bill died in committee, but it appears that he may have re-introduced it in 2013.)

Remind us if South Carolina has a run-off system should Lindsey girl collects just a plurality of, say, 38% and his opponents split the remaining 62%. I know some of the southern states do.

Yes. SC has runoff rule. Must get... 50%, I think.

I’ve been sending information on Bright, and Mace to a friend in South Carolina, and this morning asked his opinion. He said he gets nothing in the local news about either of them, and relies on what I send him from FR, and he forwards that on to others he knows in S.C.

Mainline S.C. media (print and TV anyway) are solidly behind Graham. And the consolidated Uni-Party in Columbia is very much against anyone who opposes any incumbent, Dem or Repub.

The operative word in your sentence is "true". I believe we all WILL hold our fire until we know a whole lot more about how the challengers stack up against each other and Graham.

I’m right in the middle of this battleground. At first, I was for Nancy Mace, but in a couple of her interviews she seemed weak and not aggressive enough. I have been following Bright for a couple of years and really like what I see. Now that Bright has made it official, I’m supporting him. Nice article on Breitbart. http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/08/12/Bright-Hopes-For-Ousting-South-Carolina-Senator-Lindsay-Graham

He was on Beck this morning and, unlike Mace, did a really good job.

To be fair, he had the advantage of knowing that the idiotically phrased "soul" question was coming.

I like them all. (I am soundly in the "anybody but Graham" camp.) But, although I encouraged Mace to get in the race, I am now needing something besides "My daddy is a General, and I went to the Citadel".

Begging for some substance from all of them.

Good for you. Now take positive action for his campaign and save all negative words and deeds for Lindsey Graham. The goal is to force him into a runoff and there defeat him. Any vote that any one of his challengers gets is a vote that Graham doesn’t get and contributes toward keeping him below 50% in the primary.

So far Bright seems the pick of the litter to me, but all of the three challengers who have announced are head and shoulders above the RINO Graham.

Paul Broun has said much more kooky things, and many Freepers are backing him in Georgia. I remain undecided in that race, but Bright’s Ronulan connections make me nervous. I’m gonna stick with Mace, if only for her Nancy Boy retweet. That was classic.

It is pretty far right. They sent Sanford to the House over a democrat for crying out loud.

“...but all of the three challengers who have announced are head and shoulders above the RINO Graham.”

The dog poop on the bottom of my shoes is head and shoulders above the RINO Graham.

How’s that? LOL

Totally agree. I believe there will be more revealed through the challengers websites, interviews, and a desired live debate between now and June 10, 2014.

...although I encouraged Mace to get in the race, I am now needing something besides "My daddy is a General, and I went to the Citadel".

I hear ya. But it's been the interviewers on TV, so far, that have been hitting that aspect hard, and not Nancy Mace herself.

And you gotta admit there's a huge difference between "I went to The Citadel" and "Sir, I graduated from The Citadel Magna Cum Laude in 3 years with honors, Sir!" (The best of the best of the best, with honors)

But I'm keeping an eye on all three challengers (and any others) until the June 10th primary.

Please, S.C., unite in the primary. Graham needs to go!
Division always results in the RINO slipping through. Don’t let this happen. Brite has a good record on issues. The others, not so much. Search Senator Lee Brite and read where he stands on the issues. He is solid.

Just what Goober Graham Cracker wants. Bright and Mace will split two-thirds of the vote and Goober will sneak to renomination with about a 2 percent margin.
