Under siege, a St. Paul neighborhood needs answers
pioneer press ^ | 8-15-13 | Ruben Rosario

Fearing one day an errant bullet might strike her home, Constance's kids no longer watch the TV or play video games in the main-level living room. They are upstairs, hopefully away from the line of fire. Roving bands of youths congregate near the home her grandparents have owned for more than 80 years, brazenly blocking traffic or daring motorists to hit them.

Constance, who lives near the site where a 26-year-old man was brutally beaten by a gang of thugs Aug. 4 in St. Paul's Payne-Phalen neighborhood, feels as if she's living in Baghdad or Damascus, not in the Saintly City.

She has witnessed neighbors' doors and windows knocked down or broken by burglars who take off with TVs and other valuables. Other homes have been stripped of copper wiring. A few weeks ago, the single mother's 9-year-old son, shooting hoops at a nearby park, was roughed up by a group of juveniles for no reason.

The response to her calls to police about the gunfire and break-ins demoralized her to the point she no longer bothers to dial 911.

He also noted a lack of outrage, particularly from the African-American community, over the recent beating, but more so the gang-related slaying of a 17-year-old youth by another last month in the same area. Both were black. The suspects in the Widstrand beating also belong to a predominantly black gang.

"I know its not their sole responsibility, but I'm frustrated, for example, when the (African-American) leaders in the community show up to march and protest and wear hoodies because of the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida, but I don't hear a word when things like this happen in this city," he said. "This is not normal behavior, whether it's black, white or Asian kids. But right now, it's not white, Latino or Asian kids doing this."

” I’m frustrated, for example, when the (African-American) leaders in the community show up to march and protest and wear hoodies because of the Trayvon Martin shooting in Florida,”

Trayvon Martin and black on black crime are two different things. The white hate is used for community organizing, which means money, publicity, fame. Protesting black on black would not get any money, fame or even news coverage. The one is profitable and the other isn’t.

As things decline in the US, this is going to become more and more common and spread to much larger areas. The authorities are not coming to help but to try and keep the lid on. Obama has empowered these thugs and it is going to get much worse in the next three years.

“but I don’t hear a word when things like this happen in this city”

Welcome to your leadership, maam. Maybe if you stay in the truck, you will be alright.

Moving out of the ‘hood brings more problems for the criminals. They run the risk of armed retaliation. That’s why cities disarm their citizens. Mutually Assured Victimhood. Then people leave those cities and they collapse.

But the politicians in the collapsing cities will prop it up so they can rob it blind before the fall. If some black lady gets a bullet before the fall, what’s that mean to them? Big deal. Marching for Trayvon gets you on the news. Marching for TeQuila’s orphaned children does not.

The white hate is used for community organizing

Yep -- it can unite a community like nothing else. Even neighborhoods divided by gangs and gang fighting can come together and find peace amongst themselves as they pursue a common goal.

Look at how they all put their infighting and differences aside that night and united in a common purpose around the beating the crap out of a lone 26 year old white boy.

“brazenly blocking traffic or daring motorists to hit them. “

That was tried very briefly in my old neighborhood. Very briefly. All were recent transplants from the inner city either staying with their “auntie” for the summer, or Section 8 brood. The kids soon learned that a pedestrian's life had little value as it was. Try being a tough guy with an angry and overly-stressed long distance commuter, and you become a high value target. One or two got their saggy pants creased by a Buick. The bad behaviour ended.

Wow!

Just a generation ago this was a white, working class neighborhood. With the closing of manufacturing and brewing, it became increasingly Southeast Asian immigrant territory, along with Hispanic. Seems to have become black very fast!

But right now, it's not white, Latino or Asian kids doing this."

-------------

It's almost never white, Latino, or Asians kids mob attacking businesses and innocent people. It's almost always "teens". That's why Chris Hayes' recent equivocating of the California surfer riot to the endless stream of black mini-riots and mob attacks is so disingenuous and pathetic.

Even within the comments of the linked article are white Liberals saying that you can't blame this on black culture. Instead, they claim it's because of urban poverty and that other races do this too. No, it isn't because of urban poverty because many of these kids are provided for; and, no, other races are not doing these mob attacks. Even if it's only a small minority of blacks mob attacking, it's still a black thing in modern day America.

I hate the dishonesty of white Liberals and black "leaders".

The obvious answer is that these violent gangs have to be clamped down on and hard. But that won’t happen in a p.c. area like the Twin Cities. Any attempts by leos to treat black thugs harshly will be met with storms of criticism by civil rights “leaders” and assorted race-hustlers. They will shout racism and ask why the police are not clamping down on white gangs. Yes, gangs of white juveniles assaulting Twin City residents are the problem according to the race-hustlers. Except it’s not white gangs doing 99% of the shooting and assaulting. It’s young black males.

---------------

Complaints over Al or Jesse or other black leaders not saying anything when blacks attack whites crack me up. The complaints are wasted breath. It should be obvious to all that Al, Jesse, and black leaders don't care about whites. they only care about blacks. They would much rather see a white get beaten than a black to get in trouble for that beating.

These black "leaders" (and many black people) see the world in an Us vs. Them dynamic. In their eyes, you never feel sorry for Them, and you always stand in unity with the black person even if the black person is a criminal or a hoaxer.

"This is not normal behavior"

Wrong. This is normal behavior for these "roving bands of youth" and because it is normal behavior it is they are totally protected by the police and their community.
