Anti-begging law deemed unconstitutional
United Press International ^ | August 15, 2013

A federal court has ruled that a Michigan law that bans begging is unconstitutional because it violates the First Amendment.

"Michigan's interest in preventing fraud can be better served by a statute that, instead of directly prohibiting begging, is more narrowly tailored to the specific conduct, such as fraud, that Michigan seeks to prohibit," Judge Boyce Martin wrote in an opinion joined by judges Jeffrey Sutton and John R. Adams.

Easy fix.....

Propose a new law that requires that beggars be licensed with the state of Michigan which would include 40 hours of education classes, a 70 percent score on a licensing exam and 3 hours of continuing education classes each year.

This license should be at least as hard to obtain as a barber’s license.

This one doesn't bother me much. If people are gullible enough to give money to beggars its no skin off my nose but businesses should be able to operate without their customers being harassed. I've only seen a beggar a couple of times in my life.

Just make it unlawful to give money to a beggar. If laws can be used to solve all problems, that’s the answer.

I fell into a conversation with a guy on the people mover in Detroit a few years ago. It turned out that he was a bathroom attendant at the Hard Rock Cafe downtown. (Which was where I was going before the baseball game)

He said he started out panhandling downtown and they got tired of chasing him away. He was clean and sober so they gave him a job. They even bought him one of those John Varvatos designer suits. He isn’t getting rich but he was probably pulling down 30 grand per year handing people paper towels.

Well, the idea is to give to the beggar WITH GOD’S BLESSINGS... now right away you’ll say EEEERK! is it a blessing to pay for a junkie’s drugs and booze and... well, if you invoke the supernatural power on the gift by devoting it to the glory of God, things will begin to happen in that beggar’s life to turn him to the good. Things you might not guess.

YES we can invoke supernatural power and no I’m not being one of those telegimmick preachers. Although God even blesses telegimmick preachers because at least they’re saying He can do something special when glorified. I’m just saying take God as seriously as the people the bible tells about, did.

Detroit lost one of its finer citizens a couple of weeks back when the Lets go Tigers guy was hit and killed by a hit and run driver. In fact the driver killed the Tigers guy and another “street person” he was pushing in a wheelchair.

He was one of those guys who fell into a role or found a niche and Comerica park let him stay. He didn’t harass people for money or anything he was a cheerleader in front of the entrance. He just sang “Lets go Tigers, eat em up” wearing his Hulk hands with a cup fastened into one.

Those people don’t bother me a bit.

And by the way here’s another thing that would prove helpful to this country, if glorifying God is the key to success in this creation. Devote and bless the taxes you pay to God! YES! Get your pay stubs out and pray that over the deducted taxes, or if they are not handy just pray it.

Sound insane? WE GIVE ENOUGH ALREADY TO THAT BLANKETY BLANK WASHINGTON DC, WHY SHOULD WE GIVE BLESSINGS TOO? Well keep in mind that blessings are not excuses and they are not rewards for doing wrong. If we are believers we know how God blessed us BEFORE we ever got reconciled with Him. And it costs you nothing but the spiritual effort of asking it of God.

Well, more might become that way if they were blessed first.

Did the person who filed the lawsuit beg for the money to hire a lawyer?

Wonder what they think of that pesky phrase “shall not be infringed”?

They find rights everywhere except where they are expressly deemed.

Aholes in black robes.

Sadly even most conservatives have tossed God overboard in favor of perpetual anger.

It would be fun to have crowds of people follow Judge Boyce Martin around with each of them on a rotating basis asking him for money.

Wonder how long he would put up with it.
