Pa. voter ID law on hold for November election

HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania voters will not be required to produce identification to cast ballots in November. A Commonwealth Court judge has barred enforcement of the state's 2012 voter ID law until he makes a final determination in the case challenging the legislation.

In his ruling Friday, Judge Bernard McGinley said while poll workers asking for ID was not itself disenfranchisement, a hardship was created for voters by the state's misleading or nonexistent information on the new law's requirements.

"The court cannot (in good conscience) ignore the fact that the information conveys to electors, if relayed at all, in the last two regularly scheduled elections, was inaccurate," he wrote.

"We are pleased with the court's decision, but this is not the end of the fight," said Penda D. Hair, co-director of the Advancement Project, a civil-rights group representing the plaintiffs. "Given the numerous, deep-seated problems with the law that were exposed during the trial, we know it stands to disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvania voters who lack photo ID. We will continue working to ensure that this law is permanently enjoined, and that all voters have a voice in our democracy."

The modification to the soft rollout indicates McGinley was moved by a plaintiffs' witness, who told the court she did not vote in the May primary after being told last November she couldn't vote in the next election without ID, Walczak said.

So she had, what, six months warning to get an ID and she didn't? When you can get an ID at no cost?

I smell bullcrap.

Since the IRS is hiring like made in prep for obamacare, they could issue an ID that declares you eligible to vote based on the fact that you filed your taxes. halfway sarcasm.

There has got to be a way to prevent all voter fraud.

She was able to get to court just fine.

How hard would it have been to get to the DMV?

Rumors is that PA is now a majority conservative, with that in mind and living in Realville, no dem judge could be the one enabling the twarting of voter fraud and undermine keeping dems in office.

Broke systems work in this form of communism. Why have a driver’s license? Why have hunting license? They want to know who hunts and drives but don’t give a rat’s ass about voting, which is more important to sustain a free society.

If I decipher the judges incoherent ruling it would appear that he chose to focus not on the actual new law but on its implementation and lack of sufficient communication (according to his subjective standard).

But then, if not this (objection), then he would find something else to bich about.

I think what folks ought to start is a ‘hunting registration’, where you are noted at the county office...without an ID of course, and you just walk out to hunt. Some county or state guy wants to stop you....and asks for an ID? Well, you verbally tell you are so-and-so, and registered at the county office. They’d have to call and trust you are truly who you say you are.

I think it’d take only an hour to draft up this bill, and have the state legislature ID it as the hunting, fishing, and voting act. The Democrats would basically be forced into approving it....or look awful stupid in fighting it.

Judge Bernard McGinley said . . .

Who cares what he said? The revolution has to start from the localities, as well as from the heights of Constitutional conventions and such (in Mark Levin's scenario). The judge didn't rule on the law, he seems to have ruled on practicalities—which aren't his business, but that of people elected to execute the laws. He needs to be ignored. No, we do not need to fear anarchy by ignoring (or deposing) judges who over-reach their jobs. They are anarchy. Screw 'em.

Carry on and govern. If folks won't produce ID at the polls, turn them away and kick them out. If they get rowdy, lock them in a football stadium and leave them there till spring.

It never takes Marxists very long to find tame judges to rule in their favor.

You said, “(voting) is more important (than hunting) to
sustain a free society.”

Not for long.

“We will continue working to ensure that this law is permanently enjoined, and that all voters have a voice in our democracy.”

Notice they didn't say they wanted to ensure all "citizens" have a voice? No, they are only interested in "voters", regardless of how many times they vote or if they are legally entitled to vote (non-citizens, felons, the dead).

Problem was that some Counties instructed their poll workers to ask for ID even before the law’s effective date (voters did not need to comply, of course) and even when the law was delayed due to various litigations.

So you had an out-of-control executive branch going beyond the legistlative mandate, and it is now given the slap down.

Tit for tat.

Waht is going on is that the leftists want everything we do registered. Like hunting fishing If you are a nurse and graduate from college with a degree you have to have to pay for a license. you have to have a liquor license to serve alcohol. This list goes on and on. All forms of ID’s except when the leftists want votes.
