Washington D.C. woman says a weekend trip to see the movie, The Butler was marred by the presence of police inside the theater.
Tiffany Flowers says she and her boyfriend, Alan Hanson, were attending a screening of the Lee Daniels film at the Regal Cinemas Majestic Stadium 20 theater in Silver Spring, Maryland Saturday, when the experience turned sour. She said that after waiting in line and having their tickets double validated, with the second ticket taker just ten feet from the first employee to tear their stubs, she and Hanson approached the theater entrance, only to find a police officer directing peoples movements.
Flowers told theGrio the officer herded everybody to the right, and then around the corner theres another police officer, then we round the corner and theres a third police officer.
She said the uniformed police who remained inside the theater throughout the show were not in uniform, but dressed in all black with their badges exposed, and wearing bullet-proof vests, and that she later learned they were contracted by the Montgomery County Police Department. The Department did not have a spokesman available on Sunday.
And she said the crowd inside the theater was anything but rowdy.
Im 35 [years old] and Alan is 38, she said. There was not anyone there who would make you think there would be a possible disturbance.
Flowers said that she was seething over the police presence throughout the film, but didnt immediately say anything to theater personnel. You dont want to play the black card, so to speak, and you almost dont want to feel what youre feeling, but then everyone around me was talking about feeling racially profiled and saying we dont need the cops [in order] to see an Oprah flick....

MAYBE they had a threat called in or something. I would NOT feel bad seeing 3 cops....I would feel like something was up.
Sure you do, and you just did.
It’s a game. Oprah and Oppie in the WH are playing us for fools. Just disgusting.
So I guess she figures only blacks would see that film?
It all seems very odd, but I don’t understand why she thinks this is racial.
Flowers would be the first to bitch if the ferals broke out doing what ferals do when congregated. Close security monitoring should be standard procedure whenever a movie with a “Black” theme is showing, especially in Silver Spring. I’m sure similar precautions were taken when Django was playing.
Black lady was “seething?” I think that’s better than “White Girl Bleed a Lot,” but I am quite sure Ms. Flowers doesn’t share my perspective. Tough. Must suck to be her, that she’s so easily set to “seething.”
I predict there will be riots if “The Butler” doesn’t get the Oscar for Best Picture.
The most probable explanation is that there was a threat phoned into the theater.
However, the theater-goer chose to believe that the police were there to make HER, herself, feel uncomfortable because of the color of oprah’s (or her own)skin.
I get the feeling that the “powers that be” are trying to foment a civil war.
Or it could just be Oprah paying off the cops for more publicity.
So you think this was a publicity stunt? I wouldn’t put it past them.
It would just be one more failed “look at me” movie.
Because the theater is a “gun free zone”?
Wait until the charges come that you didn’t go see this movie because you all are racists.
I think Tiffanu is just upset because they didn’t have any Skittles at the refreshment counter.
If you knew the local demographics you wouldn't wonder.
Oh please. Bring it on.
My local theaters have employed off duty cops and sheriffs for at least a decade....
Holders people have made it necessary.
