What Minnesota's one-party rule has wrought
Mpls. Star Tribune ^ | 8/18/13 | Bob Barrett

This is the year hardworking taxpayers found out what one-party control of Minnesota government looks like. It isn’t Shangri-La. More like Detroit.

A recent report titled “The Fiscal Survey of States: Spring 2013,” produced by the National Governors Association (Gov. Mark Dayton serves on the group’s Executive Committee) makes very clear that Minnesota’s tax increases this year were extreme compared to the rest of the country.

Our sales tax increases were the fourth-highest in America.

Our income tax increases were second-highest.

Our corporate tax increases were the very highest, as were our tobacco tax increases (by a mile).

Considering the net increase in all taxes, Dayton and his DFL Legislature earned the silver medal in the 2013 Tax Olympics — beaten only by … Michigan.

Look on their works, ye taxpayers, and despair.

To show how large these increases are in our state, after adding up all the tax increases imposed across all 50 states, Minnesota families and businesses will pay 33 percent of all the tax increases in the entire country!

Fear not...the legislative-wackos in Sacramento are giving the Minnesota model a thumbs-up.

No tax too high. No regulation to weird for the Sacto_clowns.

Well, yeah, but Minnesnowta makes up for it with extra-long winters, so the tax increases are evened out.

Congratulations to the people of Minnesota, it seems that they have gotten exactly what they voted for.

It won’t make any difference to the unreconstructed liberals in Minneapolis and St. Paul, of course, but the dupes in outstate Minnesota who replaced Republicans with Democrat legislators in 2012 may see clearly enough to reverse their folly in 2014 and get the legislature back into the hands of responsible adults.

The fact that a clown like Al Franken got more than 10% of the vote shows Minnesota is hopeless.

Liberalism—”Tax the bejesus out of them”.

Conservatism—”If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.

Libertarianism—”Mind your own business”.

Are businesses still evacuating Minnesota for South Dakota? I went even further two years ago - Back to Texas. But then Crazy Eyes Dayton, who feels guilty for being rich, wants so badly to punish those evil producers.

“And the people who have the dough are headed for saner climates.”

Which is the very same model of “money flight” perfected by Detroit, MI. And look what all those high taxes have done for Detroit.

The comments after the story are almost all in favor of the higher taxes and more spending! They slam Texas and other states for their lack of services and compassion, and of course for not caring about women.

I will never understand why it is compassionate to give away other people’s money.

MN people have always had a keen fondness for higher taxes. Must go back to HHH, but his predecessor, Joseph Ball, was a liberal Republican.

From the Mpls “Red” Star newspaper, how did this make it past the political overseer editor?

Or maybe this a once a year thing that they can point to and say, see we print hard news about Democrats as well.
