NJ governor signs ban on gay conversion therapy
OneNewsNow.com ^ | 19 Aug 13 | Associated Press

Gov. Chris Christie signed a bill Monday barring licensed therapists from trying to turn gay teenagers straight, making New Jersey the second state to ban so-called conversion therapy, along with California.

The bill passed both houses of the New Jersey Legislature with bipartisan support in June. Assemblyman Tim Eustace, who sponsored the bill and is openly gay, described the therapy as "an insidious form of child abuse."

In a note accompanying the bill, Christie said he believes people are born gay and that homosexuality is not a sin. That view is inconsistent with his Catholic faith, which teaches that homosexual acts are sins. - See more at: http://www.onenewsnow.com/ap/politics/nj-governor-signs-ban-on-gay-conversion-therapy#.UhJxpU7D8eE

When you get down to it we are ALL born into sin and we sin because we are sinners - it's in our nature. Someone may have a predilection to have sex with prepubescent children or be a serial killer or have a gambling problem or be a glutton, but none have to ACT on those leanings. Sin is sin and sin separates us from our all holy Creator. If God says certain acts are sin, then what right does His creation have to contradict Him??? I think some of the fat Christie is supposedly losing has migrated to his brain!

Well it stands to reason that MOST homosexuals WILL act on their desires, just as heterosexuals do. I don’t think there is any argument anymore over whether one just IS or whether he acts on it. Most people have sex in their lifetime and usually more than just once. So let’s say a homosexual finds Jesus and wants help from a Christian therapist to deal with his urges and/or convert out of a gay relationship, now the therapist has to say nope sorry can’t help you there. I don’t imagine this will stop with just mental health professionals. I do believe eventually it’ll work its way into law that forbids clergy to counsel against it as well.

My read? They tried banning this in other places in the US. It got struck down in court as 1st Amendment violation (both freedom of religion and freedom of speech). It’s likely though by no means a guarantee it will happen here.

Anyhow, it’s a rebuke to the narrowness of many modern Christian clergy that the Christian psychologist is even needed. Christian psychology when done right (where God is the center and the psychological truths are brought to bear to serve Him) is actually a specialty ministry; it is not a capitulation to world centered world views. I’ve seen bitterness towards such psychologists by very well meaning Christian luminaries who did not realize that they were tossing out (blaspheming, actually) an important baby with their challenge of the bath water. As one debate of that kind clarified, it’s not about sufficiency of Christ, it’s about sufficiency of our contemporary ministry methods.

IOW, he has decided that people should not be allowed to get help in leaving the homosexual lifestyle, even by their own choice.

Of course. Liberals know better than therapists' patients, didn't you know?

If you want to buy a 44-oz soda, you should be able. If you want get ungay, you should have your choice of whatever methods the market provides.

Government is evil, and Christie is the government.

>> Christie said he believes people are born gay

Attributing sexual proclivities to newborns? What a sick #.

Chris Christie has proven several times in the past year that he’s a turncoat and an utter fool. Glad to know it now, rather than later.

The deviltry of today is a factor of separating the children of light (or at least those who are serious about striving to be so) from the children of darkness. As the same time, let’s never ever undersell God. It’s glorification of God that makes things go, and that will bust past any earthly boundary that men attempt to set.

I believe no one is born hating their father or wanting to burn down the house.
Do not assume I am a fool who can be treapped by a sophmoric question.

Christie has a couple of things going for him that the GOP-E loves:

1. He is a big government liberal rino

2. He is pretty much unelectable, and if by some outside chance the were to win, then he’d still be a big government liberal rino.

3. Social Conservatives now know what he is and will stay home.

So, the GOP-E will go all in during the primaries to get someone like him to win, will smear the conservatives (witness the efforts already underway with Cruz and Paul) relentlessly.

The divided conservative, circular firing squad base will go along with these smears, and with their personal purity code they will help tear down all the conservatives.

Then the “Vote Christie or You Support Satan” campaign will begin on Free Republic, and everyone will pretty much agree that Christie is a wee bit better than Satan, anyone who objects will be branded pro-Satan, and the election will be held and another socialist will be in office.

Does this sound about right to you?

Everything I've read suggests that conversion therapy is quackery. Its so-called success stories are just homos who go back to being closet cases.

That being said, there are plenty of quack therapies and alternative medicines that are perfectly legal, including blatant scientific frauds like homeopathy. Yet we don't see the governor of NJ outlawing homeopathy, which tells me that this isn't about legitimate medicine so much as pandering to political activism.

The disease may not be a sin, but the behavior is.

I bet if any of his kids say they’re “born that way” he’d load them up in a state-owned Suburban and have a NJ Trooper high tail it out of state to the nearest conversion therapist faster than Jeff Gordon on steroids. Another effing hypocrite rino.

Why not just ban all other forms of treatment for all mental illnesses? It makes as much sense!

Someone pointed out above that they will fight like hell to allow a male to have his body hacked on and fed chemicals to make him look like a female, but it’s not ok to let a sexually misguided kid, abused when young, try to fix his injured mind.

These people are sick, and Christie has proven to me that he’s sick, ignorant, stupid, biased, and blind.

...There is no “gay gene”.

And since “thinking gay” leads to others thinking gay is all right, then, yes, it is a sin. Gay is deadly. Gay kills.

We must stop using the left's preferred verbiage as a first step to making the behavior unacceptable.

HOMOSEXUAL, because there's nothing GAY about it.

The people who should have fought the fight over the word “gay” did not do so at the time, so we are now so far down the road that there is no recovering the word.
