Bill Kristol: Sarah Palin can fix political career with 2014 run
The Politico ^ | August 19, 2013 | Hadas Gold

Sarah Palin could rehabilitate her political career with a 2014 Senate run, Bill Kristol said Sunday.

“I think the way Palin would possibly resurrect herself, if that’s the right word, or rehabilitate herself I guess a better way of putting it, [is] run for Senate in Alaska in 2014,” The Weekly Standard editor said during a Web interview with ABC.

Kristol said the former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee would be “pretty interesting” as a freshman senator after beating an incumbent in an election.

“I’m not urging that, I’m just saying if I were her adviser I would say, ‘Take on the incumbent, you have to win a primary, then you have to beat an incumbent Democrat. It’s not easy.’ But if she did that, suddenly if she can imagine that, you know, ‘Sarah Palin, freshman senator, Jan. 15, in Washington having beaten an incumbent,’ that would be pretty interesting,” he said.

Kristol added that Palin’s departure before the end of her term as governor hurt her leadership image....

No, perhaps Scott Walker or maybe John Kasich or Jindal (or Rick Perry)

Governors who had the support to bring change, political power.

Sarah has no political power. She only has words, good words, but powerless words

So, let’s say she runs and wins in 2014. What happens if she pulls an Obama and runs for President in 2016? Are we all going to hear how “she quit after only a 1/3 of her term?” ad infinitum?

Yes, of course we will. and it will be used to destroy her Presidential run.

Screw the Senate, run for President, Sarah!

If Palin runs, I’ll support her all the way.

She’s already been a governor, mayor, energy commission chairwoman and city council member, as well as small business owner, high-paid public speaker and media personality (both sportscaster and political analyst). That’s a much more in-depth resume than Mr. Obama sported in 2008.

Walker and Perry both support amnesty and Kasich supports Medicaid expansion.

Governors who had the support to bring change, political power.

Palin WAS a Governor. She accomplished more in those 2.5 years than most governors do in two terms, until the Obama Alinskyites tried to bankrupt her and she had no choice but to resign.

Sarah has no political power. She only has words, good words, but powerless words

What herb are you smoking? Palin has helped numerous conservatives win office and she's virtually the only Republican who has stood strong against the Obama agenda, even while facing fire from the establishment RINOs.

If Palin is content to be a television personality/pundit/endorser/speaker, she can just keep doing what she's doing--although, the farther back 2008 is in the rearview mirror, her value in these endeavors will probably diminish over time.

On the other hand, if Palin ever wants to be taken seriously as a presidential contender someday, whether in 2016, 2020, or beyond, then, yes, she would need to win a major elective office again (governor, senator, or VP).

None of which means she has the necessary support.

If she can’t get elected in Alaska, she is worn out old news as a candidate

You're all deluding yourselves if you think she can run an effective campaign for president.

The beauty of Palin is that she completely grasps how to utilize 21st-century communication while running an old-fashioned, meet-and-greet political campaign. She was mocked for using Twitter and Facebook for example; now everybody is using it and she can get her message out to the people without media filters. Even most Republicans don't have a clue on how to use technology, instead relying on millionaire donors, robocalls, and mailings that the base will ignore.

For Pete's sake, most Republicans don't even like her. I don't understand it, but it's the case.

If most Republicans don't like her, then that's more reasons why she should be supported.

You're completely delusional.

When Palin had her bus tour of historic American sites 2 summers ago, she drove the media nuts and there were hordes of people waiting for her.

I remember when her first book was released and the wait was literally days. People camping out waiting for her. They won't do that for a Christie or a Jeb Bush.

All Palin has to do is announce, and the grassroots will respond instantly.

"Sarah is presently nobody, as bad or worse than that loser Rick Santorem. Sarah must run for the Senate or just fade away."

Okay, let's do a thought exercise. Suppose you're a Republican running for congress in Iowa or Florida, just to use two examples. Your opponent, an incumbent Democrat, has a good sized war chest and the backing of the DNC, White House and the Clintons. Who do you ask to come to your aid, Senator Santorum or Governor Palin? Be honest. Who do you think can draw large crowds, numerous donations and local/national press attention? Here endeth the lesson.

Yeah, I think she has found her niche. And she likes her position.

“All Palin has to do is announce, and the grassroots will respond instantly.”

That’s true. Unfortunately the grassroots doesn’t have the numbers to get her elected.
JMHO but she didn’t run in 2012 because she knows she doesn’t have the numbers and if she runs and loses it ends her career as a pundit and political celebrity.

Were she to run and lose, half her support would evaporate overnight and the remainder would slowly fade forcing her into total irrelevance.
Much smarter for her to stay on the path she’s on now. Book deals and TV appearances. She doesn’t have to watch what she says or worry about governing effectively.

I think Sarah would make a fine POTUS...if she could get elected, which she probably can’t, especially not in 2016.

I think she should keep doing what she’s doing for a while. She’s not yet 50. I think with some additional seasoning she could become a more viable candidate.

Plus, I see no indication that she wants to be a political candidate again and put her family thru the extra scrutiny that they seem to get. She’s making tons of money and doesn’t have to deal with the MSM’s abuse.

He’s probably right, but I would be worried to see her take any advice from this GOPe elitist.

and boy did they did....you could hear the crickets!!!!!

Without the base you have NOTHING. With the base (and cranking out the turnout) all things are possible.
