Texas Senator Ted Cruz, mentioned as a possible candidate for the Republican nomination for president in 2016, released his birth certificate on Monday, ostensibly to prove that he is eligible to run for the office.

Sen. Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican whose recent travel has fueled speculation he may run for president in 2016, has released his birth certificate, showing that he was born in Canada to an American mother, the Dallas Morning News said on Monday.

I am trying to get my head around this.
If Obama was born in Kenya with a Kenyan father and U.S. mother and is not considered a natural born citizen, how is that different from Cruz being born in Canada with a Cuban father and U.S. mother?

1) Where Obama was born is a matter of dispute. He insists he was born in Hawaii and was able to present the Long Form of the Birth Certificate from the State of Hawaii to prove it.

Of course many people still claim it is a forged document.

2) Obama’s mother IS American.

3) Obama’s birth father IS Kenyan.

Whether that qualifies him to be natural born or not is a matter of debate.

From what I’ve read on FR, Obama’s Mother was not a U.S. Citizen at the time of his birth. Something about her not retaining a five year Residency I believe.

Heritage Foundation has already made the case in its handy Guide to the Constitution that the child of a U.S. citizen is considered by most constitutional commentators to be eligible for the presidency, regardless of where they were born.

So now the Birther arguement is that it doesn’t matter where he was born, or “whose his daddy?” but if his mother was a U.S. citizen?

By the way, after all this time, this is the first time I have heard that the problem was his mothers citizenship.

Is the argument shifting now because we want Cruz to qualify????

I want a conservative as much as anyone, but I thought the argument on the “natural born citizen” qualification to be President was both parents U.S. citizens and born on U.S. soil.

In order for a child to be a citizen through birth, he/she either has to be born in the U.S. or at least one of the parents must be a citizen at the time and have resided in the U.S. for a certain number of years after the age specified in the law at the time.

BHO's mother was only 20 at the time of his birth, and so did not have the requisite 5 years' of residency in the U.S. after turning 16 years old to have been able to transmit her citizenship to BHO IF he had been born abroad (which he clearly wasn't).

Cruz's mom in contrast was quite a bit older (she graduated college in the 1950s and gave birth to Ted in 1970) and so easily had the requisite time of residence in the U.S. after the required age (I think at that time the law measured residence after turning 14 years old) to have transmitted citizenship to Ted at the time of his birth, thus he is a "natural born citizen".

Cruz was an American citizen from birth according to the law on his birthdate. The crucial part was his mother was American and had lived as an adult for the required number of years in the US before his birth.

The President’s mother had not met this requirement, so his citizenship was British, via Kenya which was not then independent. He later became a citizen of Indonesia (required for Indonesian adoptions).

He claims he was always American. Whether he was, or whether he ever claimed foreign citizenship as an adult, are matters for which relevant documents are unavailable or otherwise compromised.

Will anyone with enough authority ever bell the cat? I don’t think so. I think he began his presidency with a lie and, having been given a pass on that, continues everyday to multiply his lawlessness.

No wonder “Birthers” are considered crazy. There is no consistent arguement. Now his mother who was born in Wichita, Kansas is not a U.S. citizen because she was only 20 at the time of his birth, and so did not have the requisite 5 years’ of residency in the U.S. after turning 16 years old to have been able to transmit her citizenship to BHO IF he had been born abroad.

I have seen nothing in my admittedly brief exploration of this issue that said that one loses U.S. citizen status and have to establish 5 years of residency in the U.S. before you can have a kid outside of the U.S.

What could they do? Drag him into court and explain how this ‘042’ prefix CT SSN belongs to Soetoro from Hawaii?

We’d never hear another peep about Cruz being eligible.

Obama’s birth father is more likely American, but regardless, his adoption by Lolo Soetoro and subsequent status as a citizen of Indonesia stripped him of any legitimacy to lead our country. He is probably not a US citizen at all, IMHO, and the use of a stolen SSN, failure to use his legal name Soetoro, claim of foreign student status, failure to comply with immigration laws, to name some major issues, cast a dark shadow over the fraudster and everything he does.

Those of us who consider Obama to be a pure fraud have gotten used to being questioned and called bad names.
But here on FR, Zero’s apologists usually skip the insults.

It’s actually worse for Cruz because he has admitted to being born in Canada to a non-citizen father.

Obama has not admitted to being born in Kenya and it has not yet been proven he was. But he has admitted to having a non-citizen father.

Here’s what we should do with Cruz amongst myriad other things:

1. Elect a conservative Senate in 2014
2. Sack Boehner now and elect more conservatives to the House in 2014
3. Elect a conservative President in 2016
4. Expand the Supreme Court to 11 justices, appoint Cruz and Demint as supreme court justices with ***Cruz as Chief Justice***, or in lieu of the preceding, accept the resignations of Roberts, Kennedy, Sotomayor, Breyer, Kagan and Ginsberg.

I like Cruz, but I don't think he is the “one and only” and I don't want “baggage” that will distract from the message.

I can't print what I think of Obama.

I am still a Palin die hard. My personal belief is that she may have had an affair and to protect Todd and his image, she withdrew. I don't care if she bonked his partner, I care that the Democrats are bonking me daily.

I still don't see anyone on the horizon that terrifies the progressives like she does....and that says it all.

While I will be active and work for candidates, etc. In my heart of hearts America is done or we go to the mattresses.

This is the first time I have ever heard anyone claim she wasn’t a citizen. I have heard that she wasn’t old enough to pass natural born citizen status if he wasn’t born in the USA.

The residency is only relevant if Obama was not born on US soil. Someone would have to prove that he was born in Kenya or elsewhere.
