The NSA: ‘The Abyss from Which There Is No Return’
Canadian Free Press ^ | August 19, 2013 | John W. Whitehead

“The National Security Agency’s capability at any time could be turned around on the American people, and no American would have any privacy left, such is the capability to monitor everything: telephone conversations, telegrams, it doesn’t matter. There would be no place to hide. If a dictator ever took over, the N.S.A. could enable it to impose total tyranny, and there would be no way to fight back.”—Senator Frank Church (1975)

We now find ourselves operating in a strange paradigm where the government not only views the citizenry as suspects but treats them as suspects, as well. Thus, the news that the National Security Agency (NSA) is routinely operating outside of the law and overstepping its legal authority by carrying out surveillance on American citizens is not really much of a surprise. This is what happens when you give the government broad powers and allow government agencies to routinely sidestep the Constitution.

Yeah. That’s my point. In 1975 we did not have a dictator in the white house. The person quoted was speculating about what could happen if one day a would-be dictator ever gained control. Well, now we know.

I packed it in in 1997. Wish we’d kept going for a few more years. Late wife and I were being overtaken by technology; some of the people we got sent for help were our kids’ ages. Would’ve loved to have been back in the saddle for post-9/11 operations. Our daughter is a legacy. She deployed to Afghanistan three times. It was my pleasure serving, both in the military and a civilian.

Clapper lied on live TV, in front of a committee. You’re correct. He should be wearing an orange jumpsuit.

Sorry you read that as a “slick question.” It wasn’t my intention to be disingenuous. I would just like to see proof positive of US Persons being targeted.

“I would just like to see proof positive of US Persons being targeted.”

Let’s suppose for the sake of argument that no one has been targeted — yet. The infrastructure for abuse is already there, and probably has been for longer that we know. Given the immoral socialist politicians nowadays, and the social parasites that elect them, shouldn’t we be worried about the emerging police state? We are both old enough to remember a very different America. Times are changing, and not for better.

I don’t think there is any question that the technology exists to do that. With the billions of phone and data messages passed every day, there would need to be a program which could discriminate between ordinary cellphone calls and emails and desired messages. They would also need hundreds of thousands of transcribers. I think that we would have higher priorities.

I would think that all such programs have been written and implemented and any needed transcripts would be automated, as well. The technology can substitute for human staff and AI algorithms enable a Matrix like government and control.
