Christie to endorse Lonegan for U.S. Senate

Gov. Chris Christie today will endorse Republican candidate Steve Lonegan, his former rival, for the U.S. Senate special election in October.

Christie, who is running for re-election this year in the gubernatorial race, will appear with Lonegan today at the headquarters of the Hunterdon County Republican Committee to make his endorsement at 4 p.m.

U.S. Sen. Jeffrey Chiesa (R-N.J.), Christie's pick to fill the seat temporarily after Sen. Frank Lautenberg's death in June, is slated to endorse Lonegan on Wednesday.

The Christie endorsement -- coveted by GOP politicos across the country, including presidential candidate Mitt Romney last year -- marks a new chapter in the Christie-Lonegan relationship, which has been thorny more often than friendly.

Mark Levin says Lonegan is a conservative and a good guy and a friend.

Christie endorses him? Maybe he’s hoping to HURT his campaign and help the Democrat win, by causing anti-Christie Republicans to stay home.

I don’t CLAIM this - just wondering what the deal is with this endorsement of somebody Levin backs...

Golly gee, it might have helped if the two elections WERE ON THE SAME DAY, GOVERNOR!! But you want your pal Booker to win while you get a sweeping reelection.

I advise every conservative in New Jersey to come out in October and vote for Lonegan but stay home on election day in November (or leave the governor’s slot blank on your ballot). If Christie wants to be reelected, let him get the votes of the democrats and moderate republicans he loves so much.

It actually is better that there are two separate elections.

The 'rats need to double up on their GOTV effort, which will cost them twice as much. There is no extra cost for the Republicans. In New Jersey, Republicans go to the polls voluntarily, without being dragged there.

If there were ever a chance that a true conservative would win a US Senate election in New Jersey, it's a special election on a Wednesday in October. Something which has never been done before. If Steve Lonegan can't win this, there will never be a conservative Republican elected to the US Senate from New Jersey.

Blue state Republicans like Joe Walsh need to primary congressman and wishful RINOS who want to take shots at the Senate.

Even if he loses it is good that the pockets of conservatives are united against amnesty.

Christie drug his feet long enough to make sure his best buddy Cory Bugger won the contest.
