I am surprised that the NCO in this situation didnt request the see this majors commander. In the Marine Corps we have the absolute right to request mast all the way to the commanding general if we believe that we have been wronged by our immediate commander. Doesnt the Air Force have this right There has to be at least one rational leader in that chain of command..
This was a Basic Training Squadron. There is a rigidly ordered uniformity the Flying Ice Cream Cones must present to impressionable young Airmen.
I feel sure Group and Wing Commanders would not stray far from politically correct Air Force Policy to intervene between the lesbian Squadron Commander and her First Sergeant. There is no "Captain's Mast" in the USAF. Although they play at an Open Door policy, Airmen are told from day one never blind side a Commander. This is only my memory from many years ago.

Thanks for the illumination - sad, though. I always thought that the USAF had it easier - my dad and both uncles served in the Air Force during WWII - but the Marine Corps is apparently a bit more enlightened when it comes to leadership.
When I was a mere Corporal a company commander tried to screw me over and then covered it up. I requested mast to the battalion commander and he resolved the problem efficiently. I remembered that example well when I became a battalion commander myself.
It’s funny: my Air Force dad and uncles considered me a Neanderthal for joining the Corps but little did they know that we had more rights and more respect as Marines! Just a bit more walking and gunfire in the career path..
